Funny, like being there has anything to do with the validity of Bu$hCo’s war.

    Being used sucks!

    “Forgot”….grrrr.

  5. anon says:

Thanks DV for posting the burned-vet guy. Shame on R’s for trying to turn Veterans Day into a feel-good holiday.

If you had instead written a brilliant essay making the same point, the pro-war conservatives would have just ignored it like they always do. But the picture cannot be ignored. The picture was painful but necessary.

I agree with Al; your commentary about “what he signed up for” was off. I get what you are saying, but your choice of words just gave the pro-war guys a strawman to attack while avoiding the point of the picture.

  6. donviti says:

My editor corrected the quote. It isn’t anything that people don’t say and use as the arguement for our soldiers going to war.

    “They signed up”

    “It’s voluntary” blah, blah, blah

I guess I could have let the picture speak for itself.

    thanks for the nod,

    Hey anon,

    FUCK YOU

    grrrrr!

  7. Dana Garrett says:

Donny Boy got bitch-slapped for his callous use of one man’s tragedy ONLY TO MAKE A PARTISAN POINT.

Still smarting from the sting, he can’t let it go. LOL!!

The proof that Donny boy didn’t give a damn about the man’s tragedy is shown in the fact that he used it only to attack the GOP WEHN IT’S THE DEMS THAT ALLOW THE WAR TO GO ON NOW.

The Dems control congress. They could refuse to allow a vote to continue to fund the war. In fact, since they’ve been in power, they could have ended ALL OF IT a few months ago. BUT THEY DIDN’T.

Yet Donny Boy’s photo of the maimed face wasn’t directed at them for failing to do the right thing…what they promised. That’s why people are correct in what they have said about him. He didn’t post the man’s face because of any compassion he felt for him but to use him as a hatchet in a purely partisan attack.

You are just a callous son of a bitch, Donny Boy. You care no more for the dead and maimed soldiers than the average Republican. And the difference between you and Feroce is, he actually cares for them a lot more than you do. That’s indisputable.

  8. donviti says:

Keep making your assumptions about me mr youtube.

You are just a callous son of a bitch, Donny Boy

you call it callous, I call it guts. Please forgive me if I show a real veteran on veterans day, not the one you want to felate and get all warm between the legs for Dana.

  9. John Feroce says:

    DV

If you took time to get to know me you’d know I was enlisted before I became an officer. your such a little twirp,my 4 yr old could probably kick your ass…college money douche.

You’d also find out I think the higher ups completely f’d up in this war, but none of it has anything to do with your post. All you did was post a picture of a vet. You’re a disgrace.

  10. John Feroce says:

sorry i’m typing on my phone…hooe I spelled douche right.

  11. Dana Garrett says:

“not the one you want to felate and get all warm between the legs for Dana.”

LOL! Look at how low you you have stooped, how cheap and dirty your arguments are now, how desperate you have become because you exposed to everyone how your partisanship is so fanatical that you can take a man’s tragedy and peddle it like a huckster at a carnival freak show.

    You are beneath contempt.

  12. donviti says:

my 4 yr old could probably kick your ass…college money douche

grrrr. Tough talk from a Republican.

My penis is bigger john! grrrr.

    spare me mr Neanderthal

  13. Phantom says:

    Wow Dana,
You are great at avoiding truth and not wanting to face reality. The fact of the matter is the DV made a point and though you disagree all you are able to produce is a partisan attack on his post. The democrats may “control” congress in the numeric sense but they are 9 votes (even more if you count the Lieberman is a R) short of stopping a filibuster. Therefore, it is still the GOP that controls the fact that the war is funded and continues. While it is true that the Democrats could not bring the budget to a vote they are balancing the fact that the troops have so little all ready and should they bear the brunt of the consequences for the only method left to end the war. So far the answer is no and the option is to currently continously challenge republicans and the president to alter the course and allow for legislation to bring them home without asking them to sacrifice any ability to protect them. So your GOP stands in the way of that happening which must therefore mean that you hate the troops as you want them funded and killed in Iraq or unfunded (so that they might suffer even more casualties and injuries) and trying to come home. I guess it is easy to sleep once you realize your rational of hating the troops.

  14. donviti says:

    thanks Dana,

sorry you don’t agree with me you don’t have to.
    comments are on…

  15. Von Cracker says:

Glad to see the rethug modus operandi hasn’t changed.

  16. John Feroce says:

    DV

I commented in the manner I felt best represented my response. Why are you calling me a Neanderthal or suggesting I’m being macho?

You’re the one stating you joined solely for college $ thus making your service the equivalency of my 7th grade paper route. I did not join for $, and I bet those that do still have a sense of service to their country. For the record, I gave up my $2500 loan repayment benefit for an early commission.

You obviously can post and do whatever you want, just don’t equate your service with those who actually took pride in what we thought was helpful and a sense of giving.

By the way…my first act as state senator was to set a standard and refuse a pension because of pension abuse in the state. That was 15 years ago! Think you can use someone like me now…read tbe paper! Yeah..you don’t want me and my experience snd common sense..because I might swear too much.

  17. Dana Garrett says:

“While it is true that the Democrats could not bring the budget to a vote”

Precisely. The Dems control the adenda. That’s why your analysis about the filibuster is irrelevant.

“they are balancing the fact that the troops have so little all ready and should they bear the brunt of the consequences for the only method left to end the war.”

I’m not sure what that means.

“So far the answer is no and the option is to currently continously challenge republicans and the president to alter the course and allow for legislation to bring them home without asking them to sacrifice any ability to protect them.”

This is a Republican myth. If the war funding never came to a vote, the troops wouldn’t be “less protected.” They would have to come home.

That’s how the Viet Nam war ended. Ford asked for more money and Congress refused. Our troops came home.

  18. donviti says:

    John,
I commented in the manner I felt best represented my response.

exactly. Typical GOP, might is right. I can kick your ass attitude.

    blah, blah, blah.

  19. Dana Garrett says:

“By the way…my first act as state senator was to set a standard and refuse a pension because of pension abuse in the state….”

John, you are just throwing your pearls before the swine.

  20. donviti says:

I joined to pave a way for a better life for me. sorry if I didn’t get a boner when I saw the flag at 19.

I joined I served, I did my duty. I love my country and sorry if I didn’t serve my country the way you did Major.

  21. John Feroce says:

    DV

I’m not out to argue with anyone. You posted something expectings comments and I commented.

    I’m done..peace.

  22. Dorian Gray says:

I agree the post is shocking, isn’t that the point. The knee jerk reaction is typically poorly thought out.

Let’s remember combat veteran’s on Veteran’s Day rather than pretend these girls and guys aren’t being maimed, decapitated, etc. The point is heavy because combat should only be used as a last resort, not for some abstract ideological reason (which is what Iraq is). See every interview with Colin Powell or Wes Clark in the last 5 years.

There were no WMD or AQ links. The neo-cons simply wanted to plant the seed of democracy in the Middle East and just picked a country for bad reasons. Then they used the military’s honor and commitment for a bad reason. Now young kids are getting sliced up to try to realize the doctoral thesis of some policy wonk at The Heritage Foundation. That’s the point.

Frankly, I’d be really pissed off as well, but not at some DE blogger named Don Viti.

  23. Al Mascitti says:

Phantom: YOu’re also off base in claiming that defunding the war would leave the troops in harm’s way. That’s not how it works. Look it up.

  24. Tyler Nixon says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVI1wWhWfFA

At 2:55 in this video Ron Paul states he will oppose Pelosi’s further partial funding of the war.

“No, not really because I think that is ducking the issue. As long as you are funding the war you are supporting the war.”

He nicely dispatches Blitzer’s attempt to use the “funding the war = supporting the troops” garbage.

“We have all the money we need to bring the troops home and that is the best way to protect the troops…this is all fluff for expanding the war and plan on war, going into Iran.”

But oops. Let’s not forget, Dana says he is a racist.

  25. Oscar says:

All of this bitching about using the man’s picture is null and void if the man intended his picture to be used in such a manner. It appears to be taken at a press conference of some sort. It’s an uncomfortable sight but it’s not really “using” if that was the intent from the beginning.

    Just my two cents…

Also, how anyone could support Feroce… now that is a joke. All of this “I got back from Iraq and now I’m changed” is total B.S.,…

A carpet-bagging, scum bag who is illiterate to boot…

  26. Anon says:

Dana. Can you switch your party registration AGAIN. Please !!!
You philosophy seems to be rather Republican.
Dave might welcome you with open arms.

  27. donviti says:

    thanks for stopping by oscar…

  28. disbelief says:

    Show of hands, please.

How many of us visited a veterans hospital today, or any prior day? Many of you sound like the right to lifers who wouldn’t go near an adoption program because the babys’ skins are a bit too brown.

  29. Dana Garrett says:

“Dana. Can you switch your party registration AGAIN. Please !!!
You philosophy seems to be rather Republican.”

Actually, I’m behaving the way Democrats used to before they thought it was in their best interest to behave like Republicans…Limbaugh, Hannity, etc.

That’s what you see here at DL. The same techniques used in arguments, the same sweeping generalizations, the same lack of nuance and fairness, the same attacks on party labels instead of actual positions, used by the pop wingnuts now employed for liberalism and the Democratic Party.

And this will bite the Dem Party in the ass someday just as it has the GOP now. Here’s why: the ends not only don’t justify the means, they also are twisted and damaged by the means.

You don’t recognize me because I haven’t forgotten what being a Democrat and progressive means. But you have forgotten it, if, that is, you ever knew it in the first place.

  30. Dana Garrett says:

“But oops. Let’s not forget, Dana says he is a racist.”

Sorry, Tyler. They are his words. I wish he had never made them.

I sincerely wish the US could have a presidential contest between a real conservative and a real progressive. Not only would it elevate the level of discourse, but it would probably finally let us have a debate about the real issues facing our nation.

  31. jason330 says:

    Talk about sweeping sweeping generalizations…

  32. Brian says:

Dana-Constitutional rights are not reserved to any one class of people, and while Dr. Paul has never maintained that he is perfect, the message of Liberty as enunciated in the Constituion is perfect. So why don’t we try it. It will make a nice change and when the rights of all are covered equally we will stop seeing ourselves as part of this or that group; and do something really “radical” and see ourselves as being FREE Americans.

I do not wish to be a hyphenated American. T. Roosevelt.

  33. Delaware Dem says:

“Behaving like the Democrats used to”

You mean like bending over and taking every Republican attack, and never fighting back?

That’s how the Democrats used to behave, and yes, that is how you are behaving now.

  34. Brian says:

Dana, I never mean to offend you, I never would, I want a better life for this nation more than anyone else. I fear for my nation and pray for her future each and every day, I want our families and all of our people to know Liberty. I do not want the experiment of liberty to be divded conquered and to die under the name of party politics or anything else. Check out the hate I get for my common sense on the other blog…even when I joke with some guy he bashes me with his fascist rhetoric. This must concern you, me and all of us. I want civil disobedience, I do not want you to roll over but I think we do need to rally around the one thing that will save our nation at this its hour of greatest peril, its Constitution.

  35. Dana Garrett says:

“You mean like bending over and taking every Republican attack, and never fighting back?

That’s how the Democrats used to behave, and yes, that is how you are behaving now.”

You don’t seriously believe that I take ever attack from the GOP, do you? If so, you couldn’t have read more than a few posts.

The difference is when someone is right about an issue I feel obliged to admit it. When someone says correctly, Gov. Minner is a train wreck, I feel obliged to agree instead of dodging the issue by saying “Oh, you just don’t want to talk about Bush.”

When some brain-damaged person says Bush is a great president, I ridicule them and say Bush is a war criminal who should be tried by the International Criminal Court. I doubt you’ve ever been that bold on your blog.

Sorry, I don’t believe Democrats have to attack the labels “con” and “repub” to win debates on issues. I also don’t think public trust in our party is advanced when we fail to acknowledge that one of our own is an awful elected official. We’ll end up just where the Repubs are now w/ Bush.

  36. ANNON II says:

TRUE: “The difference is when someone is right about an issue I feel obliged to admit it.”

Yesterday Dana publicly renounced his support of ’eminent domain’ (ala city of Wilm). That meant a lot to property owner/sm.businessman Ed Osborne who is championing the cause against the city’s ‘plan’.

Mr. O went to city council last week to speak his mind on the ‘plan’ only to be attacked by Ted Blunt, council prez. and told to(sic) ‘sue the city’.

This is the same meeting where Blunt told community advocate Scott Spencer (who spent an inordinate about of time this summer trying to get ‘Sunday bus service)..to sue the city too.

Great use of taxpayer dollars, right? I suppose if you drive a taxpayer funded Darango (Hemi?) and your other car is an ugly ass old orange vw bug you know city residents can be squeezed one my time.

Yes, voters it’s the same joker who banned the taxpayers from using city hall for meetings (he says Baker & Coons agreed w/him it would be a ‘9/11 type risk’…..I do not think B&C gave a rat’s ass).

So, you Dems remember when it’s time for the primaries do not give Blunt the nod. He is an shallow, egocentric, arrogant, and hateful individual.

Oh, yes, and spread it around this ’cause this cat is running statewide and it wouldn’t surprise me to see the state party endorse him!!!

He is the style they have made themselved accustomed to lately.

  37. Anon says:

Dana, will you please stop calling it “Our Party ” “I also don’t think public trust in our party is advanced when we fail to acknowledge that one of our own is an awful elected official. We’ll end up just where the Repubs are now w/ Bush.”

How long have you been a Democrat from the time you were a member of the “Green Party” ?

  38. Dana Garrett says:

“How long have you been a Democrat from the time you were a member of the “Green Party” ?”

I was a Democrat from the Carter Presidency until 2003 around the time we were going to invade Iraq with Dem Party’s complicity.

I rejoined the party this year because I saw our party chair stomp his feet, scream, and throw temper tantrums in legislative hall while powerful men cowered in his presence. It made me think that I had something I could give my former party that might be beneficial: a set of balls that can be used against idiotic bullies and tyrants.

  39. Anon says:

Are they “Schweaty Balls” or “Chocolate covered Salty Balls”?
