Today’s Double Standards in Patriotism
Remember how conservatives were oh so offended by Michelle Obama’s “proud of her country” remarks?
So when do these same conservatives get offended by the fact that Sarah Palin’s husband was a registered member of a secessionist political party for seven years? I mean, how proud of your country can you be if you want your state to leave the union?
Never. Because they understand why someone would be for seccession to create a nutjob fantasy country that they could run into the ground.
However, that said I find it very hypocritical that they then stand behind the whole country first platform from the convention. Oh well, I mean republithugs are never hypocritical so I guess it was just a slip up. 😉
Obama pledged to support full self-determination for Hawaiians. How is that any different?

Actually, Duffy, the bill recognizes native Hawaiians just as we do Native Americans. It does not propose HI secede from the US.
BTW, McCain supports the Akaka bill as well.
Indeed, Jade Gold — Obama
and McCainare endorsing a self-determination scheme for Native Hawaiians not unlike that of other tribal entities.Agree or disagree with that, but it isn’t secessionist.
Actually, I can’t find clear documentation of McCain’s support for this. Apparently he supports reporting it out of the Indian Affairs Committee, is sympathetic to resolving some of the legal challenges that some Native Hawaiian programs are undergoing and would vote against a fillibuster, but against the bill.
That sounds about on par for McCain: trying to make everyone happy, doing absolutely nothing.
