Song of the Day 6/28: Sean Ono Lennon, “Here, There and Everywhere”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on June 28, 2022

At least two musicians recorded this song as a birthday tribute to Paul McCartney — one by Elvis Costello, the other by John Lennon’s son Sean.

It’s an apt choice — McCartney said this was his favorite Beatles song. He wrote it one morning when he arrived at Lennon’s house while John was still sleeping, inspired by the Beach Boys harmonies on “Pet Sounds.” He also wanted to write something with an old-fashioned introduction before the song proper. The result, McCartney said, was the only one of his songs Lennon ever praised to his face.

This is the original — well, the remastered version — which was one of the last songs written and recorded for the 1966 LP “Revolver.”
