Signs and Sighs

Filed in National by on August 18, 2022

I happened to drive into Delaware on 113 skirting past Selbyville, Frankfort, Dagsboro, Millsboro, Georgetown, Milford. Then Rt 1 through Kent and into my slice of Southern NCC.

Here are all the signs I saw from South to North.

A Trump billboard just south of Dagsboro.
Two Alexandra Reed Baker for Suxco Recorder of Deeds
McGuiness for Auditor
Two Kim Petters for SD16
Three Colin Bonini for SD16
McGuiness for Auditor
Two Kevin Hensley

The only interesting signs were Petters and Bonini. Petters eschews the MAGA color schemes and goes for a peaceful looking aquamarine with a picture of the candidate. Also, her signs have no text other than a large “Kim Petters”. If I didn’t know who she was from being a politics weirdo, I might have thought she was running for homecoming queen.

Bonini’s signs were his standard “Please Re-Elect Colin Bonini” which is strange and a little whiny to me.

Based on this very scientific sign survey, Bonini has the most active, vigorous campaign in the state.

i have traversed Wilmington to the beach and back twice since Saturday. Pretty accurate representation as described. But on Saturday morning i took the Rt. 9 Rt and saw multiple signs for the various D’s in the 14th. Then when I got to Little Creek, I was gob smacked. The main drag of Little Creek runs for a mile or so and I was struck by the number of Buckson signs in yards. Struck enough that I went back and counted:
21 Buckson, 2 Petters ZERO Bonini!
I have business in the Long Neck area and the various R’s running for County Council and Row offices have carpeted the county roads with both yard signs and 4×8’s
I will reserve comment on the York effort for a while longer, but the clock is ticking. I am less concerned that KMG was able to pay her sign installer to get preexisting 4×8’s up on Rt 1, 113 and 13. I have yet to see a KMG sign on private homes, but I have not been in the corporate limits of Rehoboth where she has a few friends.
I also got gas last night in Sussex for 3.79 🙂

There are McGuiness signs in a private yard right outside my development in Hockessin.

Something to remember, regarding both the Buckson signs and the McGuiness signs near my neighborhood: In many cases the people who own the yard aren’t supporting the candidate, they were simply asked to allow the signs because they’re along a heavily traveled road.

My concern about York is that before I left the country I saw no York signs anywhere. She has no name recognition, so this is a serious oversight IMHO. As JC sez, the clock is ticking.

There is truth to the permission argument but in a small tight knit Kent County hamlet I think they are committed supporters.
York is TBD . Mr. Woodside care to give an update?

  3. Somebody destroyed the large Cotto sign on Philly Pike near Caulfiel. Looks like somebody backed a truck into it.

      yuck. Deb,

Speaking of Deb and co. this was a cringeworthy email from Meyer yesterday:

County Executive Meyer, State Rep. Heffernan, State Sen. Mantzavinos celebrate state investment in New Castle County parks

WILMINGTON – New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer will be joined by Delaware bond bill Chairperson State Representative Deb Heffernan (RD6) and State Senator Spiros Mantzavinos (SD7) to announce key investments by the state in New Castle County Parks. The total investment from the state to the parks is more than $900,000 and will be invested in new park equipment, paving, correcting drainage issues, and repairing courts.

I just noticed the “ice cold liquid hustle” directly below trump is kinda fitting.
