Micheal Smith (22nd RD) is NOT a Dangerous MAGA Extremist

Filed in National by on September 23, 2022

All the same caveats that apply to Hensley and Ramone apply to Smith.  These responses (see below) don’t mean that Smith isn’t terrible person.  His party affiliation means that he probably is pretty horrible.

And yet, these responses do mean that he is a Republican legislator who is willing to go on the record holding some anti-MAGA positions. Jan 6th rioters are criminals.  Joe Biden is President, and Donald Trump has committed crimes that must be accounted for.

Note: I made some slight changes to the initial email and changed the subject line to: DEGOP Candidate Survey

Mike,

Thanks for the quick response Mike.   And thanks for not being a dangerous MAGA extremist.  It is a shame that the non-extremists have so little power in the party right now, but maybe you and your fellow non-extremists can turn the tide.

Subject: DEGOP Candidate Survey

Hi Michael,

As you know, President Joe Biden recently enlisted all Americans who believe in democracy to be on guard against “Extreme MAGA Republicans” who don’t simply threaten our personal and economic rights, they embrace political violence.  The President noted that MAGA extremists “refuse to accept the will of the people,”  and said “they threaten our very democracy.”

But President Biden also said that not all Republicans are MAGA extremists, so we at DelawareLiberal.net are very eager to find which DEGOP elected officials are “extremist MAGA Republicans” and which are regular Republicans.

If you could please respond to the very simple questionnaire below we would sincerely appreciate it.

BTW – You may be gratified to hear that 50% of the Republican State Reps surveyed so far are NOT MAGA extremists.

Thanks,

Jason

Michael Smith squeaked by Guillermina Gonzalez in 2018 with 50.6% of the vote. Dems seemed to take a breather in 2020 with Luann D’Agostino getting only 37%

Talk about breather. What’s up this year? Unopposed?

  2. jason330 says:

Less than 1% chance. For all intents and purposes unopposed.

Next cycle. Wheels are already in motion.

      • Jason Carty says:

Good luck with that. I met him at the Hockessin 4th of July parade trying to get on the ballot by getting signatures to run as an Independent. He couldn’t get enough signatures? If the wheels are in motion, he may need 20 years.

        • No independent is gonna win.

Failure to recruit someone against Smith, especially in light of some of his votes this session, was political malpractice.

Watch Ramone go down in November. Should be a lot easier to recruit then.

Other obvious targets for 2024: Franklin Cooke, Lumpy Carson, and Bill Bush. Plus Stephanie Bolden. And Nnamdi if he doesn’t straighten up and fly right. Plus Heffernan’s seat, hopefully with Becca coming back. Not to mention whoever replaces Speaker Pete.

2022 will be the third consecutive cycle where the House has gotten more progressive. You know why? Because the policies are popular.
