Eagles v Washington Commanders  – Away

1:00 PM
FOX

The birds have a legit top tier quarterback in Jalen Hurts and that quarterback has many offensive weapons.  Including a weapon the birds coaches go to much too often – Jalen’s legs.

Hurts runs too much and takes too many late hits.  The Eagles have a short-term mindset.  That doesn’t get teams to the Super Bowl.   That said, the Commanders suck as badly as the team’s new name.  Should be a blow out.

FTR – Eagles coaches must read DL.

Hurst had 9 carries for 20 yards. I’d say that maybe half were called plays and half were being forced out of the pocket. Tat’s a positive trend.

After three games Hurts is second in the league in total rushing yards for a QB (behind Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson) but first in the league in attempts (35). Last year he ended the season on top of both categories. That’s the dangerous territory we’d like to avoid.

Sportsball! If we go by size of the audience, this is the opiate of the masses.

  3. Jason330 says:

Re the name – commanders is stupid but the old name was flatly racist, so I guess it is an upgrade. But a blown opportunity by the leagues worst team owner.

(Caveat) I know you MFers hate me because I don’t fit into your weird little “liberal box”…. but team worship is the same as trump style fascism with all the flag waving and putting down of the “other,” and support of the team no matter what BS entails…..borderline hypocrisy and is the same mindset that lead to McCarthy and Goldwater and now tRUMP with a mix of the Qanon need to belong. Very strange behavior. Holds true for European football as well. and maybe more so? I loathe worship in all forms and I’m way to the left of many of you fuckers so I don’t get the double standard. Laughing and pointing, as always

    • Jason330 says:

I’d have agreed with you if you said “similar” instead of “the same as”

It isn’t “the same as” but a reasonable outlet for that human need to be in a group. I remember many meatball types shitting on communism because it didn’t acknowledge the human need to compete. Meatballs observation “is the same as” that dumb critique.

      • meatball says:

“The human need to be in a group…..” not feeling it, a group of what? Jeebus peeps, footballers, academics, “workers,” this is crazy Qanon/trump BS. I guess the group I most closely align with is “workers.” I’ve worked hard all my life, likely harder than you for lower wages and ultimate compensation. I’ve worked most weekends, virtually every holiday, states of emergency, etc for 25 years. And not like a county or state employee. I am a nurse. Ya’ll are to the right of me. You too, French boy. You did jack shit to promote a fairer system; step down off your high horse for pretending now. Lol, I will still vote blue, but you assholes don’t really get it.

My late partner and all-consuming Eagles fan, Tom Daniels, asserted that football, the dance of the large men, replaces the innate human need to engage in warfare.

Human Nature. It’s what I got.

Sports is entertainment and Eagles fans are leftists… To wit.

Check out Liverpool politics. Or Celtic. Or FC St Pauli.

The idea the sports is inherently reactionary is a trope. Very weak.

And I didn’t even know you didn’t fit into a box. Frankly I know nothing about you except your take on sports is wrong.

  7. RE Vanella says:

Same in South America by the way. Biggest derby in the Americas (maybe the world) is in Buenos Aires. Corporate banker side River Plate versus the dockworker and labour founded club Boca Juniors (Maradona’s club.)

Maradona was an outspoken socialist his whole life.

  8. nathan arizona says:

I agree Hurts should run a little less, but running is an important part of his game. A double threat is usually better than a single threat. Running quarterbacks are increasingly prized in the NFL — as long as they’re good at it and can also pass.

Madonna is a socialist? Oh, wait a minute.

    • RE Vanella says:

Google image search “Maradona and Castro”.

So many lovely photos through the years of two absolute legends. RIP to the G.O.A T.s

Fidel is another great example. Big sports guy, especially baseball.

REV – Cool. Now the kick-off.

  11. Alby says:

What I find interesting is that the urge to engage in sport is nearly universal, and so is watching others engaging in it. That holds true even in societies that did a lot of warring.

As meatball says, it’s the “othering” that’s disturbing. Cf that yahoo police captain in Sussex. It’s a high school football game for chissakes. Exactly nothing hangs in the balance. To state the obvious, for people like this it’s not really about the football.

And while I’m at it, I think it’s wrong that tax money goes to “educational” institutions that are harming kids’ brains while educating them. Seems like working at cross purposes to me. Cf Herschel Walker.
