I think I just became a Kris Kristofferson fan.
From the Rolling Stone by way of the Huffington Post:
[Ethan] Hawke claimed he witnessed the confrontation backstage at [Willie] Nelson’s tribute concert for his 70th birthday at the Beacon Theatre in New York. The article does not name [Toby] Keith but says it was a country singer who “had a monster hit about bombing America’s enemies back into the stone age.” In 2002, Keith had the song “Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue (The Angry American)” that threatened retribution for the 9/11 attacks.
Hawke said the argument began with [Kieth] telling Kristofferson: “None of that lefty [bullshit] out there tonight, Kris.”
Hawke said Kristofferson then angrily confronted and asked him if he had ever served in the military.
“Have you ever killed another man? Huh? Have you ever taken another man’s life and then cashed the check your country gave you for doing it? No, you have not, so shut the [fuck] up,” Hawke recounted Kristofferson as saying. “You don’t know what the hell you are talking about.”
Damn straight. Only those who have never worn a uniform a day in their life love war.
Just another angry liberal threatening violence.
/snark
LOL anon.
Way to go Mr. Kristofferson. I’m glad Toby Keith got pwnd.
I’m thinking Toby didn’t know Kris as well as he thought he did.
There are some people that love war to be totally honest
They love the idea of war, as long as other people are fighting it.
Accepting war for what it is, and understanding it’s a necessary evil is loving war?
Jesus looks like a corn field with all the straw men out here!
Guess you guys can’t read, Kris denied it. So stupid, I hate when people never listen to the people they are badmouthing, only read what other people say. Ignorance is bliss I guess is true. Toby doesn’t support the war, never has, he supports the troops because they have no choice.
thanks for commenting Jean! hope you come back 🙂
Jean is apparently correct:

Saturday, Kris responded with a note to Rolling Stone that he later sent to The Tennessean. Here is the note, in its entirety.
“I’m deeply grateful and was profoundly moved by Ethan Hawke’s generous and respectful story about me. I have to say, though, I have no memory of talking so tough to anyone at Willie’s birthday party — least of all to Toby Keith, (if that’s who the nameless star is), for whom I have nothing but admiration and respect. And contrary to what the college classmate said, I never was president of any class in college, or on the debating team, writing club, or played baseball. I hated politics and never ran for anything.”
What an amazingly gracious way to respond to that story, Kristofferson! He doesn’t put a single person in a bad light there at all.
I still have a huge problem with Toby Keith though. But that’s for another discussion.
