2010 Statewide Races Wikipost As of 4/14/65

Is Scott Spencer for real?  Is the only question floating over the heads of the Delaware Democrats.   Not being sure about the ultimate answer to that question – I’ll stick with my original prediction.

Also – In light of  Delaware Dem’s post yesterday which revealed that Mike Castle has raised peanuts and is headed for the front porch rocker –  it looks like it will be Carney vs. some unknown Republican tomato can.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

With the first set of polling numbers in, I’m ready to call these two election contests.

US Senate

Beau Biden vs. Christine O’Donnell

Biden will win in a walk and it will not make the front page. All the intrigue will occur prior to the ballot being set. On the Republican side there will be talk about Charlie Copeland or Gary Simpson stepping up to save the party from utter embarrassment – but they will both figured A) that if Mike Castle can beg off they can too, and B) they really would not be sparing the party much embarrasment when all is said and done.

US House of Representatives

John Carney vs. Mike Castle   Protack..?  Copeland?

Once Tom Carper endorses Carney it will be all over for Mike Castle. The race will still be close based on Castle’s long history of delivering large novelty checks to volunteer fire companies and Sr. Centers, but his record (and a well run campaign drawing national interest) will finally catch up with him.    WHO will take the bullet for the GOP?   Copeland has already served in that role and may beg off.    That leaves Protack or some Leg Hall fossil who has figures, “what the f*ck.”

  1. Art Downs says:

While most real Republicans (outside of the boardroom set) hold their noses when they vote for Castle, the Dems manage to come up with someone far worse.

    Castle needs a primary.

  2. Castle won’t be primaried. It is too disrespectful of a way for the man to go. The powers that be in the GOP will ask him to retire, and endorse his replacement before Castle will be primaried.

  3. anon idiot says:

It’ll be Copeland v. Carney before Castle v. Carney.

  4. PI says:

Carney is the only decent candiate named for either seat. Biden is a dissapointment as AG and will carry that to his next elected office (and of course there will be one because that’s the way we roll in Delaware). I can’t even say anything about the o’Donnell-Protack-Copeland trio…there are no words…only laughter.

  5. Unstable Isotope says:

Actually I think Copeland is their best shot at taking the House seat assuming Castle doesn’t run. That’s not really saying much, is it?

Surely there’s some Republican in Leg Hall or somewhere in the state that sees that Senate race and perennial loser O’Donnell and thinks “what the heck.” I don’t think she’ll be alone.

  6. Unstable Isotope says:

I have no idea is Spencer is for real. He seems serious about running for the seat. I thought he demurred when asked if he would stay in the race if a big name decides to step in.

  7. anon idiot says:

Spencer is a candidate in the Mike Miller-KHN-Northington mold, only sane and smart. But he still has no chance. The fact that he’s resorting to gimmicks like a train tour and rocket launch just makes him seem desperate.

  8. Jerry Northington is sane and smart. Shouldn’t be lumped into the Miller/KHN lunatic fringe. He’s pretty much a one-issue candidate, though, so, in terms of electability, he’s not the guy to take out Castle.

Oh dear. Looks like yet another round of “Getting the Smitty.” While I am humbled, they must realize that Smitty just isn’t that conservative that they think represents the public. The Smitty isn’t that type of conservative and well, the public doesn’t want one, anyway. Once again, I will have to deflect the wooing, the begging, the lavish enticements to enourage me to run. Alas, ’tis wonderful to feel so needed, but ’tis be a fool’s errand to step in the way of yet another O’Donnell and/or Protack utter humiliation, to which they will acknowledge no such thing and immediately offer their 2012 challenges to Carper and Markell, respectively. Ah, comical relief, thy name is O’Donnell and Protack in an election year…oh, every year! How could the Smitty ever stop a process that has brought laughter to the tired and weak in such troubled times. Nay, the Smitty is not available (not yet, anyway), for the Mrs. Smitty would surely inflict pain that no man ever wants to endure, then she would likely train the mini-Smitty’s to do the same. Nay, the Smitty likes his tenders to be pampered, not hammered. So, let the flowing effects of the wooing, the begging, and the wishing continue, the rose petals showering me from the ceiling as I lay in bed (bad image). So humbling and so enthralling, indeed. However, do not distrub the Smitty, for the Smitty is enjoying his nap.

Single-issue candidates are the lunatic fringe. If y0u can’t come up with more than one issue to rant and rave about these days, you’re not cut out for a campaign.
