Republicans Waste Away

Filed in National by on April 28, 2009

The numbers tell their own story.  Only 21% of those surveyed now identify themselves as Republicans.   In March the number was 25%.   Last November…  32%.

Conservative enough for you?

These numbers are appalling, and, I’m beginning to think, irreversible.  But the GOP has no one to blame but themselves.  You guys wooed these unyielding wing-nuts.  You validated them.  And now you’ve lost your party to them.  The moderate Republican is all but extinct, and, if the 21%ers have their way, the purge will continue.

That 21% is also blind to reason.  Prepare yourself, for these folks will be celebrating Specter’s defection and Toomey’s elevation.  There will be no introspection on why Specter left; no maybe we should change – because how do you change the word of God? The 21%ers are on the path of righteousness, and Republicans placed there.

How’d that work out for ya?

    Here come the wing-nuts!

““I would rather have 30 Republicans in the Senate who really believe in principles of limited government, free markets, free people, than to have 60 that don’t have a set of beliefs.”

    That can be arranged!

Quote by Jim DeMint, wing-nut extraordinaire, who supposedly told Specter last week that he’d be supporting Toomey.

  4. Unstable Isotope says:

This is what they want. Republicans should celebrate!

Instead of the Big Tent party, the GOP is the Big Litmus Test party. I wonder what Boss Limbaugh has said about the Specter switch.

  5. pandora says:

LOL, UI! You know what Limbaugh will say. He’s nothing if not predictable.

    I am sooooooloving this.

Today is a big victory for the “Club for Growth.”

They wanted to get the government to the size where it could be murdered in a bathtub, and they started with the Republican Party.

    Huzzah!!

Listen to silly ass Lincoln Chaffee:

(Chaffee) lamented the litmus test that GOP officials are forced to take.

“It’s enormous pressure, especially with the threats of primary,” said the former Rhode Island Republican. “It is a no win. You are trying to help move the country forward and you have this small universe of a Republican primary in Pennsylvania, you are in for a scrap in it.”

What did you nit wits expect?

  9. Unstable Isotope says:

The GOP is now the anti-gay marriage, pro-torture, anti-tax cuts unless they’re for the rich, anti-infrastructure party. It’s a bit confusing, isn’t it?

  10. Your quote about the bath tub is incorrect but what else is new.

Grover Norquist said that and he is from Americans For Tax Reform.

Club for Growth suports economic freedom, liberty and opportunity. You know, the things which pays for all your liberal causes.

    Mike Protack

  11. a. price says:

YAY!!! MIKE PROTACK IS HERE!!!! the savior of the republican party!!! Seriously man, are you blind to EVERYTHING? Club for Growth has destroyed your party! you should be getting your teabag snorting , gun-fucking militias up against them! they turned your party into a small group of hard core social conservatives, and uneducated white trash.

    It was a paraphrase dipshit.

The caution in looking at these numbers (and the recent NYT poll is similar) is that the folks leaving the Rs are joining the Is — meaning that while they may be leaving the party, they are still leaners. Is are an important consituency because whoever wins has to do so with them. It is not enough for Rs to implode — the Is will always need a reason to vote with Ds, which means we have work to do and some compromises to make.
