Bigot George Parrish to Run for County Council, Still Hates the Gays (Updated)

Filed in National by on November 15, 2011

Sussex County Clerk of Peace George Parrish is going to announce shortly on Dan Gaffney’s show that he is running for Insurance Commissioner, for George Cole’s seat in the 4th District on the County Council (if he retires that is) as a Christianist Republican, obviously. (DL got punked with a tip that this idiot would somehow run for IC. A county council seat makes much more sense). This news comes on the heels of an News Journal story on him today where he kindly reveals that he will deign to enforce the law of the State of Delaware on Civil Unions over his own bigoted discriminatory views.

“As I have reviewed all my legal options, administrative options and political options, I have determined that I took an oath in support of the Constitution and the rule of law should prevail,” said Parish, who lives in Long Neck. “It’s because of that and because if I were to resign, liberal Gov. Jack Markell would have the opportunity to appoint a potential liberal to succeed me and that’s unacceptable to George Parish because Sussex County voters should be the source of deciding and electing the next clerk of the peace of Sussex County.”

Imagine that!!!! Jack Markell a liberal!! LOL. Also too, imagine a state officer, a clerk of peace, a judge…… enforcing the law!!!! The times we live in. Oh, there’s more.

Parish favors a constitutional amendment that would define marriage in Delaware as between a man and a woman. He believes the question of same-sex civil unions should be put to a vote in Delaware, as some states do with referendum or initiative questions.

He believes Delaware’s new law is discriminatory against heterosexuals. While it provides same-sex couples the same protections and benefits of married couples, it does not extend to heterosexual couples who do not wish to be married. Delaware’s civil-unions law allows those who object for religious reasons not to perform the ceremonies. And some public officials in other states where civil unions or same-sex marriage are legal have sidestepped the requirements of their government position by finding a deputy to perform the ceremonies in their place.

Well, Mr. Parrish, I do believe civil unions will be put to a vote in Delaware. If you are evil and hate gay people, and thus are against civil unions, then please vote against Jack Markell and every legislator up for election in 2012 who voted for civil unions. There is your referendum right there. And if you believe in equality and compassion, then please vote against George Parrish.*

* Since the coward announced he is not running statewide but instead in 2014 for a County Council seat, we won’t get the full statewide referendum Parrish longs for. Come on Parrish. Man up. Put your views on the line. Run against Markell!!!

BUZZZZ!!!!! WRONG!!! the energizer bunny is running for County council in 2014 IF George Cole retires, “Exclusive” on the Gaffney show:)

  2. Delaware Dem says:

LOL. We got punked with a tip then.

  3. MJ says:

Maybe the Dems will find a candidate (Russ Melrath, are you listening) to run for that seat and start a bit earlier with fundraising and campaigning. Actually, for a 7 week campaign, Russ ran a great race with little money (he took 40% of the vote). I’d jsut get someone else to run your campaign.

  4. skippertee says:

Cut the guy some slack. He publicly reversed his embarrassing original position and is now ready to “extend every courtesy and treat everybody with the respect that they are due.”

  5. MJ says:

Skip, he didn’t reverse anything. If he didn’t do what his job required him to do, he would have been impeached and Jack would have appointed his replacement. We’ll see what kind of courtesy and respect he shows when my partner and I go for our civil union on January 3.

  6. “After months of careful and anguished soul-searching, I’ve decided to live up to my Oath of Office, no matter how abhorrent I find civil unions to be. Oh, and I’m looking to run for a different office.”

    Profiles in Courage circa 2011.

  7. skippertee says:

I’m sure you’ll have a BEAUTIFUL day no matter what MJ!!!!!

  8. reis says:

MJ, congratulations on your civil union. , will the union be followed by the traditional sumptuous Jewish reception with open bar and high-end booze, and if so, when does the guest list get mailed? In case you were wondering, I have my own yarmulke.

  9. phoeniks26 says:

I was unaware Delaware had a mechanism for a statewide referendum on anything much less for what this stupid idiot wants one for.

  10. MJ says:

We’re doing the civil union in January and holding a celebration later in the year (probably the summer after the Lake Placid Ironman which we’re both doing). Plenty of sponge cake, gefilte fish, smoked white fish, and since my partner is not Jewish, shrimp. No yarmulkes required. 🙂

Send me your contact info, Reis.

  11. reis says:

Are we talking Grey Goose or not? And if you want to bump up the gefilte fish to its richer cousin Beluga caviar, that would be fine.
I think both seafoods are treated with borax, so they’re pretty similar.

  12. MJ says:

Grey Goose, Belvidere, Maker’s Mark, and a nice Spatlese for me.

  13. anon says:

Wasn’t Melrath the candidate who basically said, “I think everything George has done to fight development is good. I’d just fight more”? (That is a paraphrase.)

And if a candidate can’t get his or her shit together in time to file before the deadline, I’m really skeptical about why I should pay them any attention.

  14. MJ says:

Actually, anon, no one was going to run and Russ decided to run when he was asked to by the County Chair. It wasn’t even on his radar. The party asked and he said “yes.”

  15. Brian S says:

    Parrish is a caricature.

If he gets into the County Council, it’ll just be one more reason to move out of Sussex.

The inmates are running the asylum.

  16. Truth Teller says:

Good old George put aside his bigoted ways to stay at the governments teat sucking up the money instead of standing by on his principles and resign. Which just goes to show us all what we knew about George all a long he has no principals

  17. MJ says:

Don’t know why he’s staying on the job. He already gets in excess of $75K in retirement pay as a retired Federal employee.

  18. fightingbluehen says:

I not sure that George Parish is against civil unions. It’s my understanding that he is just against the wording of the law, which prohibits couples of the opposite sex from participation. I agree with him on that. It’s discriminatory and arbitrary.

  19. Brian S says:

He lives in Baywood. That retirement is going straight to Tunnell with HIGH lot rent. I’ve heard of people paying $2250/month in there JUST for lot rent, which doesn’t include the home mortgage. Residents there could easily be paying $4k/month in overhead. It’s insane the amount of murder he’s getting away with in there.

George is against the language of the law that allows gay people to be applying for legal recognition of any sort to each other. His whole re-election campaign for Clerk of the Peace was COMPLETELY based on being against it, which is why he became the test case for how it will be implemented.

  20. Aoine says:

His decision ALONE to live in Baywood calls into question his competancy

a 90 year lease on land you cannot own – Baywood is the trailer park on steroids

I’ll take my 3k sq foot house and 3/4 acre in a less prestigious neighborhood near the beach coz in 8 years I will own it free and clear – land included.

  21. MJ says:

FBH – you’ve got it wrong. Parish is anti-gay rights and has stated so on numerous occasions. I heard him say it at a NARFE meeting during his reelection campaign. He’s a bigot, plain and simple.
