Wikipedia is shutting down all English language sites starting tomorrow at midnight DC time to protest the Stop Online Piracy Act. The Senate version of the SOPA could get a floor vote in the Senate on January 24th.

SOPA seems to be on hold in the House, while the GOP goes back to try to revise some of the worst of this bill. PIPA is being walked back some by Senator Leahy —some details.
It’s not quite dead yet, mind you, since the entertainment industry has decided that it is cheaper for them buy policy and enforcement from the government than it is to actually invest in some technological solution to lockdown your product.
ProPublica has a wonderful resource telling you who in Congress supports SOPA. So far, only Senator Coons of the Delaware delegation has publicly announced his support.
A columnist at ZDNet reminds us that the entertainment industry has been working at getting Congress to do its dirty work since the days of the VCR.
It goes much farther back than the VCR.
