Wow, he allegedly hit a parked police car and then fled the scene.
Toast.
“I made a mistake that will not happen again,” Bennett said in a statement after his 2010 arrest.
Will Pete quit defending him now?
A Dover legislator in the 2900 block of North Market Street on a Sunday evening.
If I were a betting man, I’d guess that he was leaving a political fundraiser.
My bad, had him confused with Atkins.
A well to do white man from out of town rolling drunk down the North Market Street corridor on any evening after dark. If you were a logical man acquainted with the reality of that area you might very rationally and justifiably conclude a 90% or better chance he was looking for the services of one of the many street dealers.
That area is no joke especially after dark. Unless Bennett was lost I would say he has some splainin’ to do what he was doing there in the first place.
Maybe he’ll get a little harder slap on the wrist this time. After all he is quite a darling of the Delaware Incumbent Party and a Democrat to boot. A Kent Democrat. That’s like a lifetime get outta jail free card!
Wilmington Tourism Board in action.
Anon’s suggestion that Bennett was out cruising for illegal drugs is highly speculative and constitutes an unjustified smear. That said, it certainly appears that Bennett has a significant alcohol abuse problem. If so, it would behoove him to resign from his position and to concentrate on his problem.
Dana hit it on the head. The guy obviously is sick. He should resign and get treatment.
@ Dana Not only is anon’s comment a smear, it smacks of racism.
House Majority Leader Rep. Peter C. Schwartzkopf issued the following statement:
โDriving under the influence is a serious crime that puts everyone on the road in danger. There is no excuse for such behavior, and it should not be treated or taken lightly. I realize that we are all innocent until proven guilty, but in light of the information we have, I am ordering an Ethics Committee investigation into his alleged actions. As Rep. Bennett is entitled to due process and we as a committee will need all substantiated information in hand, we will let the justice system proceed first. The Ethics Committee investigation will begin upon completion of the judicial process.
โWe have been informed that Rep. Bennett intends to seek treatment. On a personal level, I wish him the best in addressing these issues.โ
Under House rules (House Resolution 2), if the Ethics Committee recommends a disciplinary action, the committee would present a resolution to the House. According to House rules, disciplinary action can range from censure (a formal reprimand) to suspension or expulsion.
The Ethics Committee is comprised of the leadership of both House caucuses โ Reps. Schwartzkopf, Robert F. Gilligan, Valerie J. Longhurst, Gregory F. Lavelle and Gerald W. Hocker.
For more information regarding the Ethics Committee and its proceedings, please see House Resolution 2, specifically Rules 16 and 30, and House Resolution 4.
It’s true. I hate white people.
Hit a cop car and ran, huh? White boy running around that neighborhood at that hour. He stuck out like a turd in a punch bowl.
More like a marshmallow in a coffee pot.
Dems can throw him out, then he can join the GOP and run again. What do they call that move…..a Reverse Atkins.
Credit where credit is due, the Rs did kick out Atkins. You’re move, D party.
Apples and oranges.
The thing about Bennett, and Atkins as well, is that he/they have pushed more law’n’order legislation than virtually anybody else currently in the General Assembly.
I think it’s neither coincidental nor ironic.
I think they know themselves all too well and think that everybody else must be like them.
Everybody else isn’t.
The neighborhood is diverse. Carper is 5 blocks north. More importantly I hope that he seeks and cooperates with treatment. Jason is on point.
The question is, how much influence does Brian Bushweller have with Pete and Gilligan?
Carper is more that 5 blocks away from 29th and Market, JP. He’s off of Lea Blvd (43rd Street). This guy was heading toward Concord Ave, on 27th and Market.
The initial incident was at 39th and Washington
Does it really matter where it happened? He shouldn’t be driving drunk anywhere.
El som, how about an extra $100 fine on state reps that drive drunk?
My comment regarding location was not alluding to the incident itself but rather the not so veiled racist references to the City of Wilmington .
‘El som, how about an extra $100 fine on state reps that drive drunk?’
Classic.
i dont get it ๐
Does that mean I can run on my driving record? Sweet! Cleaner than soap. ๐
