A Shooting In Arden?

Filed in National by on February 15, 2013

As you know, I live here. Apparently, there has been a shooting at Harvey Road and Lorelei Lane, and the shooter is, or was, at large. Two victims reported, one of them seriously injured. Harvey Road was shut down, and we’ve had helicopters circling over us.

The copters have left. Harvey Road has apparently reopened. I don’t know any more than that, but it’s definitely surreal.

I talked to a policewoman and she said they “think” he has left the area…. But judging from all of the activity I doubt that very much… I live right on Harvey. My baseball bat is close at hand.

  2. Delaware Dem says:

Go down Harvey Road a mile and you are at Philadelphia Pike in Claymont. It is easy to think of the Ardens as isolated and ideal, protected from gun violence, but in reality, it’s not.

  3. smithsonian says:

The shooting was IN arden. Not claymont… We are from arden not the land of ignorance.

  4. Delaware Dem says:

Was the shooting in a house in Arden or on Harvey road? Bulo’s post made it appear that it was on Harvey road, which is easy to travel to from Claymont, which was my point. But call me ignorant and be rude if it makes you feel better.

  5. smithsonian says:

I didn’t call you ignorant… Idk I took it as it was in a residence. There was an ambulance in the driveway right off lorelei…

I’m from Browntown on Maryland Ave originally but moved up here a few years ago to graylyn crest thinkin it was a nice place to live n there been even more car n home break-ins, bank robberies n not that it’s hurtin anything but propert value but alot of graffiti…I would suggest getting a little more then a Louisville slugger.. A German Shepard and I firearm should do the trick and send a message…don’t break-in my house

Arden has a very helpful Facebook group called “Ardenistas” where Arden residents talk about neighborhood happenings. Tonight, residents reported what was happening real-time re: the shooting. I’m not a fan of Facebook but I was very grateful this online community was there to give us all fast updates and a sense of community. There’s good info in there.

I take offense from the person that said Claymont is the land of the ignorance,I am a homeowner right off of Philly pike right on the cusp of Wilmington and Claymont and obviously the shooting happened in Arden it doesn’t matter were you live it can happen anywhere….I just hope they catch the person that did this because Arden is right around the way and this is too close to my home smh

  9. Mark says:

    What is a “copter”?

  10. Speaking of the ‘Ardenistas’, we found out about the shooting when we got a call from our daughter, who goes to school in Portland, Oregon. She follows the ‘Ardenistas’ page as a way of keeping up with what’s going on.

So our alert that a shooting had taken place came from 3000 miles away. This internet thing just might be here to stay.

  11. smithsonian says:

I feel the need to clarify…. When I said ‘land of ignorance’ I was refering to the mindset that because we live in arden we may think we are isolated from gun violence. I wasn’t calling anyone or any town ignorant!! I lived in ashbourne hills for six years… And my daughter still lives there half the time. Please read in context before you assume. I thought I was pretty clear. This is exactly why I keep off boards. I simply wanted to exchange information. Not insults….

  12. girlscout says:

It’s funny I know more people that do drugs and drink that are from “Arden”. It was drug related and rumor has it the person is an Arden resident.

  13. mattyice says:

Wow..oh so real huh…man you people are all isolated I lived on green street and in graylon crest…what did you all forget Wilmington the #1 city in america for gun violent crimes is right down the road..yup you did…grow up sit back and live your lives…killers aren’t gonna stop cause your scared…have a plan…as staples would say ” that was easy”

News Journal: Dayvon Neal, 25, of the 700 block of E. 11th St. in Philadelphia, was pronounced dead near the intersection of Loreley and Apple Tree lanes from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body, Cpl. John A. Weglarz Sr. said.

A second man, a 24-year-old also from Philadelphia who sustained a gunshot wound to the lower body, was found about two blocks away on Harvey Road at Loreley Lane, Weglarz said.

He was taken by Claymont Fire Company ambulance to Wilmington Hospital, where he was being treated. His condition and details of his injury were not released.

The incident was reported at 9:34 p.m., Weglarz said. He said county police, paramedics (4D and 8D) and ambulance personnel from the Claymont Fire Company responded to a home in the 1700 block of Apple Tree Lane on a report of multiple shots heard in the area. When they arrived, they found Neal on the ground in front of the residence, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Weglarz said.

  15. Not sure, but I THINK I’m the only Arden resident writing here.

It’s true that an Arden or, more accurately, Ardentown, resident is involved. There have been a lot of suspicious comings-and-goings from the house in question.

And Arden has been known for drug-related activities, although, in the past, a lot of it has been pot smoking.

Still, the introduction of (what appear to be) automatic weapons and drug dealers from Philly is more than a little disconcerting.

  16. Another Mike says:

I think this just shows no place is immune from this kind of garbage. I lived next to Brookview for five years and never had a problem with any of those residents. I feel my home now (also in Claymont) is quite safe. Still, it was surprising to hear “shooting” and “Arden” in the same sentence.

  17. geezer says:

    graylon crest?

  18. heragain says:

Yes, Arden’s shootings are generally due to domestic violence and suicide. There’s some doubt about the geographic point of origination of some involved. Been a long weekend.

  19. pandora says:

We’ll have to wait and see, but right now it looks like this was a drug/gun house and a deal went bad. And these houses are everywhere. And when this crap happens it rarely involves the entire community. The two guys from Philadelphia had a reason to be in that location. This doesn’t strike me as random… more like just a matter of time.

  20. We are now hearing that an Ardentown resident has been taken into custody, and has been charged with the murder. I won’t print the name until it has been confirmed. I have a call into Dennis Williams (just kidding).

Apparently a drug deal gone bad…

  21. Anonymous says:

I live in ardentown, and the whole thing was like a scene from a movie. I’m hearing about another body though. Any idea about that?

  22. heragain says:

This morning, on a street that connects Veale and Marsh. Not in the Ardens, but close.

  23. Scott says:

So what you’re saying is the residents of Claymont, which is just down the street from the shoot out at the Arden Crack Den, aren’t safe? Seeing as they are just a short distance? Sarcasm aside, who is this git that believes Arden is so much finer a community. Again, I hope the majority of residents, wherever the hell you live see my scathing commentary for what it is. I just find that “Dem” sounds alot like “Gop” from some seperatist movement.
