Tom Carper and Chris Coons are behind recent attacks on Elizabeth Warren
Tom Carper and Chris Coons are co-chairs of “The Third Way” , a corporate Democrat’s think tank in Washington that has been described as “oligarchy promoters pretending to be reasonable.”
Aside from Carper and Coons, the leadership of the Third Way is, “made up almost entirely of investment bankers and other Wall Street executives.[5] So it is not surprising that Caper’s organization is going all out to undermine and discredit Elizabeth Warren.
Corporate democrats freak out over Elizabeth Warren threat
The Washington establishment’s war on Senator Elizabeth Warren has officially begun.
On Friday, Jim Kessler, vice president of the centrist Democrat think-tank Third Way, took to the airwaves to defend his organization’s recent attack piece on the Senator. That editorial, which was published in the Wall Street Journal last week, blasted Warren for supporting an expansion of Social Security.
Kessler doubled down on Third Way’s anti-Warren messaging during his appearance on Sirius XM radio, telling host Ari Rabin-Havt that she is “starting to get out of hand.”
Ignore the not-so-hidden sexism in that comment, and consider for a second what’s really going on here.
Jim Kessler and the corporate Democrat “moderate” types who support Third Way are absolutely terrified. They’re terrified that Elizabeth Warren and her supporters will upend the stranglehold they’ve had on Democratic politics since the Clinton era.
So now they’ve joined Republicans in declaring an all-out war on her and everything she stands for.
Good for them. She is one of the worst senators on the hill, maybe even worse than Socialist Bernie Sanders.
Thanks David. I guess the billionaire’s point of view deserves to be heard here.
Yeah, when I’m looking for information about Congress, my first instinct is always to turn to a semi-literate Bible thumper.
Don’t forget Delaware’s other Third Way co-chair, Chris Coons.
Note that in the WSJ piece Third Way called for Social Security cuts, so I guess that is the official policy position of Third Way. Coons and Carper should resign immediately on that basis alone. They should be challenged at every opportunity to disavow Social Security cuts. Carper of course actually voted against the cliff deal because, in his own words, it didn’t cut “entitlements.
I see now that Coons is part of this Third Way bullshit. He is actually running this year, so some of us may have the opportunity to call him out on this.
Don’t forget Hillary Clinton in all of this. Where does she stand on cutting social security and medicare
Third Way honorary Co-Chair Alison Schwartz (running for Governor in PA) signed on to the Strengthening Social Security Act of 2013 after the PCCC pointed out Schwartz’ affiliation with the Third Way once their op-ed went live.
The Clinton v Warren stuff is hot air, and is probably promoted by the Third Way to muddy the water.
Senator Carper has long been a key mover at The Third Way but I am so terribly disappointed to hear that Senator Coons has joined that gang. UGH!
The sad realities of one-party rule in Delaware:
jason used to tell me (with some justification) that Libertarians were just Republicans who liked to smoke pot.
Apparently, in Delaware, Congressional Democrats are just Republicans who support marriage equality.
Was late coming to this…. just had an “Et tu Brute” moment… Oh wow.
I need some pot.
Is The Third Way the same cult that TC has always belonged to, is it a different cult entirely, is it the successor cult to the DLC, and/or is it another cult in addition to the aforementioned cults?
Regardless, it is unacceptable to have OUR ENTIRE CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION as members of a cult or cults that rejects everything that real Democrats stand for.
Are Hillary’s opinions that far off from Bill’s and other so called DLCers who I am guessing are the predeccors to these Third Way people?
Andy, I think Hillary is more partisan. Although, probably every bit as receptive to the entreaties of our corporate oligarchs as Bill, Tom, John and *sigh* Chris.
Apparently, in Delaware, Congressional Democrats are just Republicans who support marriage equality.
Truer words have never been spoken (or typed, for that matter.)
The Third Way is a successor cult to the DLC, who were run out of town on rails after the Kerry campaign.
I agree with LeBay. It has always been that way, but They used to be a little sheepish about it.
Third Way also has Bill Budinger on their Board who is also on the Aspen Institute Board and of course, who seems to syncopate with the beat of Delaware Pols Coons, Carper and Markell’s involvement with his Vision 2015 – Rodel. Full Circle?
Hillary just took $400,000 for a speech to Wall Street bankers, in which she said anti-Wall Street rhetoric is “unproductive and foolish.” Does that answer the question?

When I read that story about H. Clinton, I was thinking “I guess making the big money comfortable is part winning the Democratic nomination.”
Then I died a little inside.
From thePolitco (ugh) Mag article:
Who’s this *we*, Kemosabe?
The Politco article is worth the read to see these Masters of the Universe decidedly peeved that they are NOT getting what they paid for.
