Carper Opposes $10.10 Minimum Wage

Filed in National by on February 26, 2014

Yep. Favors a rate lower than that, $9 to be exact. Because he is Tom Carper. It’s keeping Harry Reid from having enough votes to pass the bill. He needs to get out of that bleeping Chamber. Who is paying for his obstructionism this time? He should just take a job with them and end his disgraceful public career.

    Fuuuuuuuuuuck!!!!!!!

  2. Jason330 says:

This is just everything that’s wrong with Carper in a nutshell.

Helping the little guy? Fuck you, I work for the big money.

Democratic unity in order to help elect other Democrats? Fuck you, I’m all about me.

  3. Jason330 says:

How does Tom Caper avoid being called out for this bullshit? At least Landrieu and Pryor have an excuse.

Landrieu and Pryor are both running for re-election where Obama lost by double-digit figures in 2012.

    Carper’s excuse is pure doucheiness.

  4. cassandra_m says:

And pure hypocrisy. For all of his worrying about the budget, this is a clear way to be more responsible about the budget. The lower the minimum wage, the greater the subsidy to minimum wage companies in the form of the food stamps and Medicaid their underpaid employees collect. Carper has no problem voting for food aid cuts and mumbling about Medicaid — but making sure that the reason why lots of people even access those supports is something he can’t support.

    Despicable.

  5. So, Sen. Carper, let’s hear your logic for the economic impact your “savings” of $1.10 will have on our nation’s economy. Please be specific. As for the recipient of a $10.10 minimum wage, $1.10 less means a week’s worth of pretty modest grub at the grocery store; or a month’s heating bill, of that payment on their student loan for the month.
Please tell us, Senator your rationale for the employer or the national economy.

  6. Liberal Elite says:

@PP “So, Sen. Carper, let’s hear your logic for the economic impact your “savings” of $1.10 will have on our nation’s economy.”

A: My favorite lobbyist told me not to… and that $9 might be enough to appease the plebeians.

  7. the cajun says:

Not surprised. He continues to live up to my lowest expectations. He’s consistent, to be sure. I’ve stopped wasting my time writing him. I get the same canned response (non-response) every time.

  8. pandora says:

This is so depressing… and typical. I’m with you, cajun – not worth writing him anymore. I hate those canned responses. He simply doesn’t care.

  9. Ezra Temko says:

On a positive note, Congressman Carney is a co-sponsor of the House bill and Senator Coons supports the Senate bill.

  10. liberalgeek says:

Plus, the all minimum wage earners are to be paid in bitcoins.

  11. B. Cobain says:

Where was all the vitriol when The Governor of Delaware Liberal, Jack Markell, signed that whopping $8.25 minimum wage bill. He refused to even go to $9/hr. I’ll just assume Carper is more of a pocketbook liberal than my boy Jack is?

  12. Jason330 says:

Markell isn’t joining with Republicans to stop a vote on $10.10. Also, people like him and Carper is a fucktoon.

  13. B. Cobain says:

No, you’re right Jason. Markell is not joining with Republicans to stop a vote on $10.10/hr minimum wage. He actually joined with the Republicans before he was elected (about 3,000 of them), to ensure that there would never be a $10.10 minimum wage bill to stop. I smell hypocrisy… Ha! ROTFL

  14. jason330 says:

People like him and Carper is a fucktoon.

  15. Black Cobain says:

Lol.. At least you own the hypocrisy Jason. I can respect that. lol

  16. Delawarelefty says:

Raising the minimum wage and protecting social security are old school Democratic bread and butter issues. My guess is Markell is smply waiting to take the blue dog’s senate seat. It is the Delaware way. So it is time for Delaware’s Democrats to demand that the governor begin to act like a Democrat in terms of economic issues! Carper’s staffers should also know that he is doing them no favors with his blue dog crap, unless they plan to run as Rethugs after he retires.

  17. puck says:

” Carper’s staffers should also know that he is doing them no favors with his blue dog crap”

Tell it to Sean Barney, former Carper/Markell staffer, who some Dems are salivating to sweep into office. Those who won’t learn from history…

  18. Geezer says:

Carper’s staff has told media he is unavailable for interviews this week.

  19. Andy says:

    Marvell is a fucktard too

  20. FTW says:

Apparently there are those who never heard of the word LIFO. Last in first out. A business can either increase their prices or cut their labor costs. The last thing small business wants to do is to increase prices in this fragile recovery. . Min. wage is a starting point, not a career. The problem is where is the upward mobility in this economy. Where are the jobs?

  21. fightingbluehen says:

I’m in the landscaping and lawn care business, and I don’t know of anybody who pays employees minimum wage.

Workers who make minimum wage make up about 2% of the work force. A percentage of those workers are kids still in school. Also about 60 % of those workers will make above minimum wage after six months in employment.

It is also the consensus among economists that an increase in minimum wage will slow job growth.

Companies also have a set budget for employment. They will not give everyone in the minimum wage category an increase in pay. They will have to let go of some of those people.

Also these companies will probably pass the increased wages on to the consumer just for good measure.

All in all, this is just another move by politicians so that they can be perceived as caring for the little guy.

  22. puck says:

an increase in minimum wage will slow job growth.

Yes, while expanding the economy and overall buying power. And cutting minimum wage in half will increase job growth while shrinking buying power. And any bump downward job growth from a rise in minimum wages always comes back. Your point?

Or we could become like India for example, where the lowest wages are not living wages and people sell themselves out as live-in servants.

these companies will probably pass the increased wages on to the consumer just for good measure.

Good. Then we aren’t paying enough for our cheap crap. It’s about time goods were fairly priced to reflect a decent wage for those who make them. My food tastes better when it is picked or cooked without misery. After all, who better to pay than the consumers of the goods?

this is just another move by politicians so that they can be perceived as caring for the little guy.

Good. It is about effing time. We’ve had enough moves by the politicians caring for the fat cats. Hooray for the little guy!

  23. fightingbluehen says:

But, the little guy is not being helped. That’s the point.

  24. Jason330 says:

The zero sum game mentality of the typical wingnut borders on a mental disorder. In fact, I don’t know if “borders on” is accurate.

I’m not sure what it would take to have the APA add “Zero Sum Mania” to the DSM-5, but they should consider it.

  25. puck says:

But the little guy is not being helped.

If you don’t think so , just ask one. He isn’t buying your bullshit anymore about how what is good for the rich somehow helps him.

We have had 35 years of sociopathic plutocrats telling us that cutting taxes for the rich would create prosperity for everyone. When coupled with a dose of jingoism and bigotry, a lot of Americans bought it. And it has led us to economic collapse. Remember “A rising tide lifts all the boats? Remember how cutting taxes for “job creators” would send them roaring into a job-creating frenzy? It never happened. Supply side is bankrupt – even the Pope agrees. Now it is time to rebuild the economy from the bottom up.

  26. Jason330 says:

The fact that Republican economics has been completely exposed as a cynical fraud doesn’t matter because some black guy might get unwarranted help, and that is money taken out of FBH’s pocket.

    Also, Benghazi.

  27. pandora says:

Capitalism needs its serfs. The real magic is how they get their peasants to spout their BS about taxes, minimum wage, etc.

  28. Jason330 says:

That’s true. Getting so many of the working poor to clamor for their impoverishment is the industrial miracle of our time.

  29. fightingbluehen says:

“Good. Then we aren’t paying enough for our cheap crap. It’s about time goods were fairly priced to reflect a decent wage for those who make them.”

That’s rich. People can barely afford the cost of living, and you’re pontificating about how we need to pay more.

Typical liberal elitest. This is what I’m talking about. Speaking of the little guy, maybe you are the person who needs to, “just ask one”.

  30. Jason330 says:

I know your faith based economic notions are impervious to actual facts, but what the hell.

(Reuters) – Income inequality can lead to slower or less sustainable economic growth, while redistribution of income, when measured, does not hurt and can even help an economy, IMF staff found in a research study released on Wednesday.

You are a brainwashed moron. Plain and simple.

  31. Jason330 says:

Now, why is it that allowing the little guy to have more money helps the broader economy? It is because poor and middle class people circulate the money they get and put it to use in the economy, and the wealthy do not.

As the recovery struggles to gain solid ground, the findings indicate that even while America’s wealthiest households are taking home a larger share than ever of the income pie, they’re doing little to put that money to productive use in the economy, experts say. One possible solution: raising taxes on the rich.

“It’s a real problem,” Michael Linden, the Center for American Progress’ managing director for economic policy, said of the wealthy’s propensity to save and not spend, “to the extent that more and more income is going to people at the top and more of that income is not going to places that are productive.”

America’s wealthy save their money at a rate of 37 percent. That is 37 cents for every dollar sucked directly out of the economy. The average savings rate is America tends to be around 4 per cent.

Are you starting to see why giving the wealthy tax cut is pure bullshit from an economic perspective?

  32. fightingbluehen says:

We are still talking about the minimum wage hike, right? All of a sudden you are calling me names, and talking taxes.
The income inequality isn’t between the poor and the middle class anyway. It’s between the wealthiest investor class, and everybody else.

  33. Jason330 says:

By the way, I still have $50.00 for anyone who can show that Republican economics has EVER worked.

Nobody even tries to claim this $50.00. It is because Republican economics is such faith-based BS. It all comes down to mumbling a bunch of rote memorization about how the debt is some big problem and we need to take care of Job creators.

  34. Jason330 says:

We are still talking about the minimum wage hike, right?

    Yes, you idiot.

  35. fightingbluehen says:

Obama believes in supply side (trickle down) economics. Why do you think he allows the Fed to continue with it’s quantitative easing policy. You don’t disagree with the President, do you?

You can just give that $50.00 to the next homeless guy you run across. You see, we Republicans do really care.

  36. Jason330 says:

See? Nobody even tries for it because trickle down is complete horse shit.

  37. fightingbluehen says:

Someone makes some money in the stock market. They take that money and build a house. Then they hire me to take care of their lawn and gardens. I take that money and buy some beer. The liquor store takes that money and hires someone to scrape the gum off the walkway in front of the store, and so on.

(Trickle Down)…. What else is there?

  38. Geezer says:

“That’s rich. People can barely afford the cost of living, and you’re pontificating about how we need to pay more.”

Really? What items are people paying for in this “cost of living” you reference?

  39. jason330 says:

“Someone makes some money in the stock market. They take that money and build a house.”

Do you care to try and stretch beyond your fourth grade understanding of economics and try to provide some evidence that trickle down HAS EVER created a prospering economy?

No, you don’t. Because you can’t. I might as well make the bet $50,000.00 instead of $50.00.

  40. fightingbluehen says:

So, you don’t think the cost of living is high, Geezer? Must be nice.

  41. Tom McKenney says:

(Trickle Down)…. What else is there?

    Trickle-up
The wealthy will always get theirs. If you spend money at the lowest levels it will work it’s way up, then someone can make money is the market.
