The Westboro Baptist Church will be protesting Beau Biden’s Funeral Mass on Saturday. I wasn’t going to head down to Wilmington on Saturday morning, what with the traffic and all, but now I will, if only to block these hate filled bigots from view. Any interested parties willing to meet up near St. Anthony’s to join me, please let me know in the comments.

  1. Delaware Dem says:

I am thinking a 10-15 foot long black tarp, attached at each end to a plastic or wooden hand held pole, with a loving message facing the street, like “We love you, Biden Family.” It will be a silent counter protest. Let love drown out hate.

  2. Rufus Y. Kneedog says:

What the hell is wrong with those people?

  3. AQC says:

I can’t be there but my son and his friends are willing. Let me know details of meeting when you have them.

  4. Delaware Dem says:

Rufus, the WBC are the “Christian” equivalent of ISIS. They are, quite simply, evil. I use that term, evil, as hyperbole and often, but in this case, it is true.

  5. puck says:

    Wilmington police:
“There will be heavy security around the church, so those looking to utilize the service are encouraged to leave baggage in their personal vehicles. No bags, backpacks, sharp objects, umbrellas, liquid, or signs will be permitted. ”

I guess that rules out the black tarp on poles. I hope that includes the bigots’ signs.

  6. SJ19805 says:

If you post details I can be there

  7. AGovernor says:

I thought the crowd would be too much.

But when I saw this I knew I had to head on over. I will be there with you to counter these wackos!

  8. radef16 says:

Finally something that we can all agree on.

Information has been relayed to all of my conservative associates.
When you get there remember to let the police know what you are up to so that
they can help you get spots in front of the Westboro idiot squad.

  9. Millie says:

These freaks Talk about God like he gets ANGRY! My LORD, GOD, does NOT get angry! And how do they figure they know what God is thinking! Only GOD knows certain things and these people are complete idiots if they think THEY know it all! My GOD is all KNOWING. This is certainly a bunch of twisted people, and they ARE NOT GOD’S PEOPLE! We are not here to Judge just to help people learn about the real GOD which they KNOW NOTHING ABOUT!!!!!

  10. Joe Trainor says:

Can we just stand where they end up standing and just outnumber them?

  11. CC says:

When I went to Church they talked about LOVE, Forgiveness, Peace, compassion, understanding–Loving THY enemy, Loving Thy neighbor. What kind of church do they support? Because None of those values are expressed in their notice.

  12. Walter Kowal says:

Please let me know how I can help I am in philly and willing to make the trip down to block those hate mongers

  13. CC says:

I will Go What do I have to do?

  14. radef16 says:

    FYI:

    Public Law No: 112-154 (08/06/2012)

Title VI: Memorial, Burial, and Cemetery Matters – (Sec. 601) Amends the federal criminal code concerning the prohibition on disruptions of funerals of members or former members of the Armed Forces to increase the period covered under such prohibition from one to two hours before and after a military funeral. Includes within such unlawful conduct any disturbance or disruption occurring within 500 feet of the boundary of a funeral location, or on or near the boundary of the residence of a surviving member of a deceased’s immediate family. Provides civil remedies, including actual and statutory damages. Makes identical changes under federal veterans’ provisions concerning the prohibition on certain demonstrations and disruptions at national cemeteries, including Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia (Arlington).

  15. CP says:

They want to protest at a church in the Little Italy section of town…good luck with that.

  16. sue says:

These people are satin followers trying to use God as a cover…evil to the core…they will all burn in hell

  17. Joan Deaver says:

Think of Beau and try to picture what he would do in response to these deeply disturbed people.

  18. Rufus Y. Kneedog says:

If Father Roberto were still with us a couple of DiSabatino dump trucks might show up at an appropriate time.

  19. Just wondering says:

    1. As I read the WBC statement, it seems to be mostly an attack on the “filthy catholic whorehouse” & its Sacraments (“last rites”) and a slander against priests; are you ordinarily so eager to defend the Catholic Church by counter-protesting attacks? If so, please let us know where to meet up next as there will be many opportunities to express your outrage at the injustice of it.
    2. WBC has long been known to be a tiny, tiny group of mostly family members fighting with each other…why are you giving it attention and puffing it up as something to take seriously and be concerned about?

  20. Beverly C says:

    I choose perish.

Is there an actual plan for countering the activities of these idiots or just internet outrage?

  21. Delaware Dem says:

Well, given that they won’t be able to get inside the perimeter with their evil signs, it is likely they will protest on a corner far away from the church and unseen by the family. So that is the good news. The perimeter rules against bags and signs also prevents us from bring any counter measures. I will still head down there tomorrow to see what the situation is.

I have been told that the Delaware Democratic Party does not want there to be any organized counter protest as they do not want to call attention to them.

  22. Geezer says:

” As I read the WBC statement, it seems to be mostly an attack on the “filthy catholic whorehouse” & its Sacraments (“last rites”) and a slander against priests; are you ordinarily so eager to defend the Catholic Church by counter-protesting attacks?”

It’s not “defending the Catholic Church” to protest these noxious attackers, just as it’s not an attack on the Catholic Church to disagree with Beau Biden. In fact, protesting the Catholic Church’s policies — which is not what the WBC is doing — is not an “attack” on the church itself.

So, in short, go fuck yourself.

“If so, please let us know where to meet up next as there will be many opportunities to express your outrage at the injustice of it.”

Why? Have you gotten bored with harassing women entering clinics?

  23. doreen says:

You do knew the Westboro Baptist Church only has 39 members? Its members are mostly the Phelps family. I think you can definitely out number them.

  24. mouse says:

Remember these people are borne from the religious republican right

  25. fightingbluehen says:

Actually they are born from the religious Democratic right.

  26. fightingbluehen says:

Anyway, I think they are in for a rude awakening. They’re going to find out that they aren’t in Kansas anymore.

  27. DEvoter302 says:

@mouse that is totally false. As someone who has spent more time around the religious right than I wanted to, I can attest that your statement is a false, perhaps hopeful, perception.

  28. mouse says:

The whole hateful faux religious sexual obsession came from conservative republican christians. This nut case group is a spin off of that of that political tactic. It’s self evident

  29. Vito Andolini says:

wbc should think twice about coming to Delaware . The Biden family is loved in this state and we will not stand for any interference or picketing of one of Delawares sons. wbc please dont come here.

  30. Rev. Andrew Weber says:

Newark clergy are hosting a love-focused gathering that morning!!

  31. Uh HoldIt says:

I have not heard of this pathetic, tiny and hate filled group before but my impression today was that it was much larger and organized than it really is. That must be due to the fact that their voice is being amplified by the attention it is getting from sites like these.

The police presence will probably be enough to keep the freaks under wraps. Additional help from local supporters will also ensure that the right voices are the only ones being heard.

    God bless America.

  32. John McNeal says:

The most awesome thing about V.P. Biden and for that matter Beau is that they have so much respect for Civil Rights that they would probably be the first to stand up for this groups rights to speech and assembly.

REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH MALARKEY THAT THIS GROUP IS FULL OF!

  33. s berkheiser says:

Delaware PGR just waiting for the OK to be there! Several years ago my boys wanted to ride up behind them with paint ball guns and pelt the crap out of them with reed white and blue paint balls!! I kind of wish I would have let them do it!!

  34. Delaware Dem says:

For those interested in coming, please go here for details.

  35. Sue B O'Dea says:

The CATHOLIC CHURCH is the original Christian Church founded by Jesus Christ. It will be here long after other Church’s as promised by Christ.

  36. The only reason these people matter is b/c they get attention far out of proportion to what they deserve.

    I say, just ignore ’em.

They don’t/won’t matter anymore, if they ever did.

  37. Aoine says:

This is the ONLY time in my life that I wish my butt was wider and bigger than it already is…….

Doubt they will show up as security will be tight …

    I however should make it

  38. Joanne Christian says:

Jesus called. He needs a ride up.

  39. melissa says:

This is so sad. What is wrong with the world today. Prayers for his family and loved ones.

  40. Mary says:

Secret Service will be there too. Hope for the familys’ sake the the WBC nuts are out of sight and hearing range.

  41. Gwen Long says:

God Bless You, Joe Biden and your family. Losing Beau is something you will never get over but know that you have the love and respect of everyone in Delaware and the country and I hope our thoughts and prayers will help. This small ISIS group can’t spit where you stand.

  42. RobberBaron says:

If I didn’t have to work yesterday, I would have gone and protested against that hateful group.
