DEGOP looking at the horizon and moving past the lunatics

I don’t know these candidates, but knowing that it takes time to build up campaign chops, these youngsters (Chapman, Delcollo, and Spadola) appear to be recruited for this cycle and the next.

A Dream Team
Dave Burris·Thursday, April 28, 2016

As much as it feels like a constant uphill fight being a Republican in Delaware, I couldn’t be happier to see four amazing, accomplished candidates, all in their 30’s, running for State Senate this year as the GOP tries to build a majority coalition.

Please check out/follow/like/volunteer/contribute/etc. Chapman for Senate, Anthony Delcollo for Delaware, James Spadola for Delaware State Senate and Carl Pace as they take on the difficult challenge of running against incumbents that average over 30 years in office.

They’ll be working hard on the campaign trail as we work equally hard in the Senate to offer new ideas and an innovative approach to governing. If you like what you see and hear, I encourage you to get involved.
Great things are happening as a new generation steps up with new solutions for Delaware!

  1. Prop Joe (Hawkeye) says:

“Before deciding to lead & manage his business full-time in March 2015, Carl was employed by MBNA America and then served the community of New Castle County, as a law enforcement officer.”

Yay! Another cop running for office! And Pace’s business bills itself as the premier firearms training center. They even have a cute news feed that appears to link to articles about firearm deaths (http://www.trintacusa.com/Pages/default.aspx).

It’s always a rebuilding year for the DE GOP. Like the Eagles.

Moving past the lunatics? Delcollo wrote the letter that was the subject of this post (link to letter itself in text of post):

I was just hoping that they would trot out Simpler for Gov and we could be rid of him.

  5. Jason330 says:

    Dan, I stand corrected.

LG – Being rid of Lacey Lafferty isn’t nothing.

  6. cassandra_m says:

James Spadola is a cop too — its like the only people who have the time and resources to be a part of government here are cops and government workers.

And it wouldn’t be a GOP race without one of them trying to beat the people who disagree with him into submission.

  7. BullMooose says:

FWIW, Meredith Chapman worked for Chip Flowers at either at his law firm or at least at the start of his 2010 campaign.

  8. Mikem2784 says:

Spadola is a social liberal…that, combined with what passes for a Democrat at the statewide level in this state, makes him darn near a Democrat in my mind lol

  9. jason330 says:

As I said, I don’t know the candidates. The recruiting, however, reveals some strategy to me. This is going to be a Dem year. It isn’t going to hurt these guys to lose this round, but it will help them a lot in the long run.

They’ll get experience and build networks. Meanwhile, the Dems they lose to this time will be dead or doddering the next time around.

“Being rid of Lacey Lafferty isn’t nothing.”

You won’t be rid of her. People like her run over and over. Isn’t Karen Hartley-Nagle running again this year? And very occasionally (Karen Weldin Stewart) they win. It’s like the lottery. You can’t win if you don’t play.

  11. Jason330 says:

I just learned something about one of these candidates. For a digital communications professional, Meredith Chapman has a shitty website: http://www.chapmansenatede.com

  12. Jason330 says:

Also, I have already written (obliquely) about Pace.

  13. Sean Goward says:

I don’t usually feel it’s my place to toss in my .02, but I sincerely share your concerns about having more LE elected to office in Delaware. It’s troublesome that Justice Sotomayor was the lone voice of reason in numerous cases, opining that we can’t keep bending the fourth amendment to meet the capabilities of law enforcement. If they can put aside the badge and uphold their oath of office, I might have more confidence in electing them. The fact remains though that our ‘tough on crime’ policies have enabled disproportionate incarceration of minorities as well as mass incarceration for victimless crimes. Policing for profit in the form of civil asset forfeiture and revenue generation through civil citations is an egregious abuse of the public trust and our civil liberties and creates the kind of hostile environment that puts both the public and our officers at risk. I know I’m not John Carney, but it seems to me that he is so far disconnected from the average Delawarean that he doesn’t have a grasp of the challenges our communities face. I know that as a libertarian, I face more political challenges than those aligned with our two older parties, but while I work to meet those challenges, I’d just ask that you consider vetting me as a viable alternative to the status quo.

  14. SussexWatcher says:

Simpler can run for governor as many times as he wants and still be around as treasurer. He doesn’t have to quit one to run for the other and the terms overlap.

  15. liberalgeek says:

True, but I’m not sure that he wants the stink of a loss on his record, even an expected one.

I’ll add here that Meredith Chapman is really a very smart person and I have been impressed in all of my interactions with her.
