Put some heat on John Carney by helping fund this crowdpac.com campaign

Filed in Delaware by on February 9, 2017

Crowdpac.com is awesome. Read all about our efforts to put John Carney’s feet to the primary fire, and make a small pledge to get us started.

Here is what we say at Crowdpac:

Why you should support this campaign

John Carney, the Governor of Delaware, has taken the possibility of tax increases for the state’s wealthiest corporations and individuals off the table. Instead, he has stated that balancing the state budget must be accomplished by cutting service. This solution is horrifying and we will not stand for it!

We are asking that you pledge today to start building momentum for a primary challenge to John Carney. Pledge today and your card will not be charged until a legitimate primary challenger has registered. At that point, all of your donations will go towards his opponent in the 2020 election.

WHY NOW?

One of the biggest obstacles to mounting a primary challenge to an incumbent corporatist Democrats is the lack of a fundraising apparatus. Crowdpac.com allows us to get a running start and build up some momentum. Donate today and a little more everytime John Carney throws teacher’s under the bus and before you know it we’ll be ready to take him on in 2019.

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT?

The goals are twofold.

1) Get 500 people give just $25 each. That means a legitimate primary challenger will start off with $12,500 and a list of 500 potential volunteers. and…

2) As the campaign grows John Carney will know that he is being watched and when he continues to advance the goals of the Chamber of Commerce with no regard for the working Delawareans he will get immediate negative feedback.

Spread the word and contribute today. Delaware can’t afford to have John Carney continue to coddle the wealthiest among us.

I’m in for $25.00 and remember we are trying to chip away at this in $25.00 increments so that Carney knows that opposition to his Chamber of Commerce loving economic policies is widespread.

  2. bamboozer says:

    I’m in, well worth it.

  3. Jason330 says:

    Gracias.

I’m going to be a huge pain in the ass to everyone to get on board, so just cut to the chase like bamboozer, make your pledge, then start sending the link around to your network of resistance members.

  4. Jim C says:

I’m in. Tried to call Carney’s office and got answering machine. Must be a snow day in Dover?

  5. Jason330 says:

In his last campaign, fewer than 5% of Carney’s campaign contributions were under $199.

60% of his contributions were $2,500 or more.

Who do you think Carney works for?

  6. nemski says:

Once I find my wallet I’m in.

  7. I agree with the sentiment, but I think the target is premature.

Carper is up in two years. I’d gladly contribute $100 to a crowdfunding operation to primary his sorry ass.

  8. Jason330 says:

I’m utterly disgusted with Carney. The direction he has telegraphed is nauseating.

But a Carper campaign may be worth it too. We need to wake these guys up.

  9. Jason330 says:

Still… put some pledge up for Carney.

  10. Kevin Kelley Jr. says:

You either stand for something or you don’t

  11. Jason330 says:

Good point. Put your $25.00 pledge in if you haven’t.

  12. RE Vanella says:

After watching his disgusting triangulation routine in person a few weeks ago and also seeing that cowardly performance about marijuana legalization I’m convinced that the governor is a fucking weasel.

Anyway, I covered myself and three other people. I’m in for $100. Now get off you ass and toss a few shekels in the pot.

“The only solution is strong economic growth.” JC Carney Jr

So we can concentrate and hoard wealth!

“The only solution is strong economic growth.” JC Carney Jr

Carney’s theory is pure Republican unicorn piss.

Delaware’s economic growth as measured by state GDP is within historical norms:

    https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/DENGSP#0

Income growth however has ALL gone to the wealthiest, while incomes for the rest of us have shrunk:

Delaware’s wealthiest residents hoarded all of the income gains as the state recovered from the recession, according to a study from the Economic Policy Institute that provided yet more evidence of an imbalanced economic recovery.

From 2009 to 2012, the top 1 percent of Delaware earners saw income growth of 15 percent.

The bottom 99 percent? Their incomes fell 1.6 percent.

  14. Jason330 says:

    Indeed. Put your $25.00 in.

  15. Ben says:

I need to see an actual challenger. I’m pretty sick of constant talk about “lets challenge the Delaware way” …. then nothing, and we all re-elect corpradems. I pledge to donate $50 and 8-10 hours per week volunteering, as soon as a primary challenger announces. Same goes for Carpetbagger and Coons.

  16. Jason330 says:

You don’t get the beauty of this process. This money is pledged and only goes out if a legitimate challenger announces. You are basically telling a legitimate challenger to the Delaware way, “Hey the money is here. Come and get it.”

For the challenger, it is a little insurance against people saying “You’d be great, you should run” then not ponying up.

Pledge your $25.00 if you think Carney needs a challenge.

  17. Ben says:

The money is pledged… It just doesn’t get donated until there is someone instead of a concept.
Keep in mind, I’m not telling others to go this route, It’s just that my skepticism and pessimism is finding new lows every day. If there is really an effort to unseat these reptiles, I’m in. Otherwise, it’s just more noise.

  18. Jason330 says:

This effort is $175 dollars more real today than it was yesterday.

The more people who know about Carney’s plans to lavish tax breaks on multinational corporations at the expense of Delaware schools – the more they will chip in $25.00, and the more real it will get.

Every time Carney says that his hands are tied – pledge $25.00 and tell two more about the campaign.

Every time Carney claims tax cuts for the wealthiest corporations and individals is sound economic policy – pledge $25.00 and tell two more about the campaign.

  19. Paula says:

Done – $200 in the kitty to primary John Carney.
Ben, your credit card won’t be charged unless and until someone actually steps up to claim it. But the public pledge itself makes that step more likely.

    Here’s the confirmation message:
Your support of the following candidate’s future opponent is a pledge. You will only
be charged if viable opponents emerge.
John Carney for DE, Governor (2020)
We’ll let you know by [date missing — I guess that still needs to be determined] if these conditions have been met. Your card will not be charged until that date. If the conditions are not met, your card will not be charged.

This also puts the current governor on notice that he’ll face a challenger from the left, so perhaps he’ll keep that in mind over the next four years.
Can we start one for Carper and Coons?

  20. Jason330 says:

Thanks, Paula. Carper is next in line. I’m sure both Carper and Carney will provide us a great many fundraising opportunities as keep building their reputations as politicians willing to work across the aisle, so long as it benefits the financial sector.

  21. Alby says:

When is Lisa Rochester going to hold a Town Hall meeting? Or is she Carpering up?

  22. Jason330 says:

She should do one sooner rather than later. I think she still has some time to get in front of the wave that is building, but that time is running out.

  23. Paula says:

OK, so I just called LBR’s Wilmington office
FYI: 1105 N Market St, Suite 400, Wilmington, DE 19801
    Wilmington: 302-830-2330
    DC office: 202-225-4165

I asked about public appearances, town hall-type meetings scheduled for week of Feb 20 when Congress is in recess. Was told that there are no town hall-type events planned but they had just spoken this morning about a joint appearance with Coons and Carper and were working on it.

Also, both the DC office and the Wilmington office said that I could request a meeting and could do that by e-mail or via her website page:
    https://bluntrochester.house.gov/contact/schedule-a-meeting.htm
    E-mail for scheduling is: de.scheduling@mail.house.gov

So? Shall we? Could Delaware Liberal “sponsor” a forum? In cooperation with Blue Delaware (y’all are still speaking, aren’t you?)? Or could Delaware United or Network DE, which might have more resources and contacts for putting an event together get involved?

I don’t know how much of an impact she can have in the House as far as voting (and she seems to be voting against everything the GOP throws up – choice of words intentional). But a meeting could be useful to figure out how to help her push a more progressive agenda and to find out what she thinks are the biggest threats.
She has a page on her website tracking all her votes, with links to the bills:
    http://bluntrochester.house.gov/voterecord/

All those “disapproval” bills are against environmental protections Obama put in place before leaving office — I think through executive action, which means Congress can vote not to enforce them, or something like that.

  24. RE Vanella says:

Whatever is required to sponsor an event like this, I’ll satisfy. In other words, to whom shall I sign the check?

Seriously, just tell me what I need to do to get her on record. I will arrange this personally. Al can livecast it. Provide “real time” commentary. An hour of her time. New media for the Trump age.

Let’s chat tomorrow. I feel like they’ll agree to this for $5,000. World’s second oldest profession. Politician. … Resist. —-RV

  25. Jason330 says:

I’m not sure if you are kidding or simply taking sponsor too literally. I think we can get a group together.

  26. mediawatch says:

LBR will be more progressive than Carper or Carney on education and workforce issues, but just as supportive of big banks and pharmaceutical manufacturers as they have been. Given the current composition of the House, being more progressive won’t make her more productive but we’ll feel a little bit better about having her represent us on the losing side of the debates.
Keep in mind — she got her start in government working for Carper in the House and in Dover, and then served in Minner’s cabinet for three years while Carney was Lt.Gov.
So a lot of Carper and Carney has rubbed off on her.

  27. Carper himself said that he couldn’t ‘choose between his children’ in staying out of the House primary. Lest we forget, Bryon Short, LBR, and Sean Barney were all his ‘children’ in that race.

Which is what’s wrong with Delaware in a nutshell: Too many of Carper’s children running Pop’s Third Way store.

  28. jason330 says:

The bottom line is that these corporatist Democrats can’t be allowed regard our votes as free. No cost, no effort required.

They have to be made to earn our votes and Carney’s plan to coddle corporations while sticking it to working families doesn’t cut it.

  29. Alby says:

Yeah, that was my point. Stephanie Hansen is no progressive beyond social issues, but she’s smart enough to sound like one while campaigning.

I don’t think Rochester is a real progressive either once you get past social issues, so the time to turn up the heat is now. If I can’t damage Carper I can at least put the screws to his “children.”
