Republicans, Howard Dean will mess you up.
Chairman Dean took his 50 State message to DSU yesterday, but I could not make it. (stupid paycheck!) Anyway, the best thing that ever happened to the Democratic party was the media lynching of Dean the Republicans organized that knocked him out of the Presidential campaign, but eventually made him chairman.
Here is part of the JL Miller’s (very on the level for the News Journal) take on the event.
When the Democrats were getting their clocks cleaned by the GOP in the last decade, part of the reason for the Republicans’ successes was their on-the-ground organization.
“The Republicans are in the field every day,” Dean said. “We gave up on a third of the country. In a third of the country it was socially unacceptable to call yourself a Democrat.”
When Dean took over the chairmanship in 2005, “I decided we would be everywhere, in all 50 states,” he said.
That effort began to pay off in off-year elections in 2005, and the party won big in 2006, regaining control of both houses of Congress.
“This is not over yet. When you win in politics, your work is just beginning,” Dean told the students.
NOTE: The DSU Democrats seem to have their shit together. If anyone is interested in guest blogging let me know.
