Markell vs. Carney Comment Rescue
In an (at times interesting/at times pissy) exchange between Kilroy and Al regarding Markell v. Carney – Kilroy made this observation:
But I really think that (Carney as the favorite) is a political illusion and the only safety net Carney would have is if Minner were to step down making Carney the incumbent. Markell would look bad trying to knock off the democratic incumbent, but I do think Markell has better business smarts then Carney. Delaware does need a CEO not a Governor.
I agree with Kilroy on Markell, but I disagree with his take on Carney.
It is no illusion that Carney is the insider and probably has the upper hand as things stand now. Beyond RAM, Carney may have the Rep District endorsements. They would count for much more than RAM’s endorsement because if a majority of the RD’s go for Carney he would have the state party’s infrastructure as a counter weight to whatever money advantage Markell has. After all, how many yard-signs and radio ads can you put on anyway?
With money there is a point of diminishing returns, with state party and union volunteers the more the merrier.
As for the hypothetical scenario in which Minner steps down and appoints Carney so he could run as an incumbent. I guess maybe it is possible, but it also possible that monkey’s could fly out of Al’s ass.
In order for Ruth Ann to step down and give Carney the veneer of incumbancy, she would have to think about someone besides herself. If there is any example of her doing that in her professional life, I haven’t seen it.
If there is any example of her even thinking at all in her professional life, I haven’t seen it.
My RD does not want to endorse anyone. not sure if this is the case for other RDs, but people I’ve talked to aren’t excited about endorsing anyone.
The 9th is an odd duck. If it came to a vote today, I think the 9th would probably go for Carney.
It is still a good old boy thing in Middletown and people might vote for the person they are “supposed” to vote for instead of the person they want to vote for.
I think people seem to favor Jack and would probably vote for him in the privacy of a voting booth.
Maybe I’ll suggest a secret ballot instead of a roll call?
Two questions; one- do people want to endorse before the primary election? Two- will the districts actually endorse and if so can they be organized enough to handle the process?
Early bet- the majority of the RD’s vote not to endorse.
My understanding is that the new rules say if a primary candidate gets and endorsment from 21 RD’s they get support from the State committee in the primary. This was to get a little sunlight on the process.
I don’t know if that support is money or what, but it seems to make the RD endorsement much more valuable.
You may be right about RD’s voting to not endorse, but they might decide that since they’ve been given a little bit of power, they should use it.
In the long run – if it gets more people active in the RD’s – I’m all for it.
Join your RD Committee and be heard. (Sorry Tyler, only Dems get to join. We would welcome you if ya wanna switch. Lots of folks are doing it.) To find out about joining email Kristin Dwyer at kdwyer@deldems.org

Interesting comment! I assume the goos olb boy thing is the old delegates. I wonder how many delegates down there are reflective of the new folks liveing in Middletown. The new community thinks one way and the delegates vote another.
Those of you who want real change in governemnt need to get directly involve and it will be the young folks who will be the Trojan Horses. You can’t change things from outside your party, you must get inside.
Carney should have to work his ass off to fend of Markell. You would think Carney’s loyalty to the party combined with paying his dues being Minner’s Pool Boy would ensure a victory. If we can agree Markell will give it a go then surely there has to be crack in the party for him to dig into. Sure, I bust on Markell and Carney, I am a Republican. But I am here to tell you Markell is Shark and will get what he wants. I am not being sarcastic because as I said we need a CEO not a governor and Markell is a prime candidate for the CEO job. If had to be stuck with anothe democrat for Governor (hopefully not) then I would want Markell.
We need radical change in Dover. I don’t think Carney can deliver.
