I have to say, Black History Month has really gotten away from me. A reminder came this morning when I heard a report about a speech billed by Louis Farrakhan as his last on NPR. Love him or hate him, I’m somewhere in between, he is influential. I know people that attended the Million Man March and came back energized and rededicated to their family.
The interesting part of the report, to me, was that there doesn’t seem to be an heir apparent when the cancer that he is suffering with gets the better of him. Farrakhan essentially rebuilt The Nation of Islam after Elijah Muhammad died. The report suggests that there are no other dynamic leaders in the wings.
I don’t pretend to know what this means, other than the African-American community is about to lose another leader.
