Cathcart Takes House Majority Position

Filed in National by on March 14, 2007

Dick Cathcart (R-My District) has been selected by the Republicans in the State House as their Majority Leader.  As a result he had to step down from his chairmanship of the joint finance committee.  So now the battle is on for that position.  Potential candidates include Booth, Miro and Oberle.  There was definitely some softness in Cathcart’s last campaign.  I wonder if we could actually knock off the majority leader in 08 in his blue district.  Start putting the armor on M.O.T. Newbie.  You are on notice. 🙂

  1. Cathcart is committed to clean water and preserving public lands on the one hand. On the other, he has a curmudgeonly style with constituents and the public (from what I have heard, e.g. his outbursts with Bob Reeder in the first days of his JFC Chairmanship about double-dipping charges, Cathcart and Wagner were new-hires at DSU, bothsat on JFC and neither recused themselves from DSU business before the JFC.)

Hey you guys in the 9th! I hear that Rebecca Walker is going to run again and she’s a truly impressive candidate. But we’ve got to do better on turnout next year. We out-number them 40% to 35% but they beat our brains out on turn-out in 06, 75% to 57%.

Walker didn’t start her campaign until just before the filing deadline in July so next time around she should do better, but if the D’s don’t go to the polls it won’t help.

Get-Out-The-Vote is the least glamorous thing a campaign can do. It’s the grunt work of phone-banking and door-to-door dragging. You all know because you’ve done it. MOT Newbie and all you 9th District folks, call your friends and tell them how much fun this is — lie a little. It’s worth it! ;o)

    Onward in 2008!

So….Rebecca…(the poster, not Walker, btw)…you are my nemesis, eh? Do tell…do tell… 🙂

Will RW run again in ’08? My personal, standing prediction is that depends on the health of one Senator Vaughn.

Geek…to answer your challenge, I expect nothing less in that part of the process. I just want us all to get along when it is all done.

Oh man, that baby needs to get here pronto…this mushy stuff…is…over…pow…er…ing.

We will have a beer the weekend after RW’s victory party. 🙂

In the Senate 14 special election?

As much as I want to take credit for poster-Rebecca’s turnout stats (man, that would be so sweet a reflection of my efforts to the campaign), I have to post a correction. Sigh.

Quick digression…poster-Rebecca…do you know (or maybe you do now) that I am a Cathcart supporter? I just read your entire comment and I can’t tell.

Back to topic…as much as reading 75% to 57% just read so good, felt so good, I had to ruin the party by going to the source. The Department of Elections report (go to page 199) has RD9 totals as 53-52-45%, D-R-I (and “other”), respectively. On the bright side for all involved, that was better than the state averages in all categories, so good job to all sides involved!

Rebecca, where did you get your numbers? I liked them more!!! 🙂
