I have mixed feelings. On the one hand everything he said is true and it is nice to hear.

One the other hand, if he had given this speech six years ago most of it would still have been true (everything except for Saddam being dead), we would not be in Iraq and he would be President now.

Although I think Biden bends the truth a little bit in this speech, I still see him as the ONLY politician who has been pretty much right about Iraq. Given the info we had, it was right to go into Iraq. He wanted more troops and we needed more troops. He warned of civil war all along and recommended a huge surge to prevent a civil war. He also recommended partitioning the country. If he had been president in the last years, we would not be in this mess. He also understands the importance of keeping Afghanistan under control, lest the terrorists regain control and set off a chain reaction resulting in the extremists taking control of Pakistan and their FUNCTIONAL nuclear weapons. I’ve had the pleasure of having many private conversations with him and I believe he would be the best choice for President in 2008, if we were to base it solely on foreign policy. It is amazing to me that after 6 years of illiterate Bush, Biden is not electable because he puts his foot in his mouth?? Also, people say Iraq is the #1 issue facing this country, but Obama is a frontrunner??? I don’t get it.

He bends the truth when he talks about the AUMF, because the Senate foolishly put in an open ended clause saying something to the effect of “we authorize the use of military force as long as Iraq is a threat to American interests.” I think that clause is still in force. He also bends the truth when he refers to the foolishness of cutting funding; it is not foolish talk, he is just too scared of the political ramifications of cutting funding. The republicans, wrongly, would have a field day with calling the dems terrorist sympathizers.
