Don’t Forget Your Essay

Filed in National by on March 18, 2007

It’s cold outside today.  You don’t want to be out in it.  You spent yesterday shoveling chunks of ice off of the driveway, plus you are still a little woozy from the St. Patty’s celebration last night.  What should you do today?  Complete your entry into the Tommywonk Energy Essay Contest!  I completed mine and sent it along.  It will soon be posted at LiberalGeek and also at Tommywonk.

I’m really at a loss when it comes to making a statement to PSC’s Karen Nickerson.

When you consider all of the costs, wind power seems like such a no-brainer compared to coal, that it is hard to come up with anything new to say about it.

Anyway, with Carper and Castle on the side of coal, is commenting even worth it?

Wind power may seem like a no-brainer to you; others may disagree, and far more vocally. I urge you to write the PSC, even if it’s a short letter urging them to “consider all of the costs.”

As for whether our congressional delegation supports NRG’s coal proposal, I have come across a letter to the U.S. Department of Energy from Biden, Carper and Castle that reads in part:

“This letter is being written in support of the NRG submittal to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regarding the IRS Section 48A tax credits for the proposed Indian River IGCC Repowering Project in Millsboro, Delaware.

“We strongly urge the DOE to approve the application for Section 48A tax credit eligibility.”

This strikes me as rather narrowly worded.

I do not know that Biden, Carper or Castle have voiced a preference for the NRG proposal over the other two. If you have information that any of them have, I would be interested.
