The Delaware Media’s Code of Silence on Iraq

Hugh Bailey writing in the Connecticut Post about Joe Lieberman says:

Just sit back and see what happens, he (Liberman) says — let people continue dying, let the country continue to spend billions of dollars each month. It’s a profoundly unserious proposition to ask that Americans, four years into what was promised to be a quick and easy victory, would suddenly stop questioning just what in the world we’re accomplishing over there. It defies every instinct of a democratic society.

The very same paragraph can be applied to our own Congressman Mike Castle.

The problem with Delaware is that Castle asks for and gets the silence he wants when it comes to Iraq. Castle supported Bush’s surge by voting against HR1591 has anyone asked him about that vote? No.

Even on a day that saw 10,000 Iraqis pour into the street to protest our four year occupation, Castle demands that his decision to support the President avoids any and all scrutiny from the press – and that demand is met.

The evidence that our lap dog press is only too eager to play along with this “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” charade and allow Castle’s policy on Iraq to go unchallenged is not hard to come by. TODAY, for example, Congressman Fife attended a press event to recieve a pat on the back for steering some money to the U of D. The event was attended by WNJ’s talking points transcriber RACHEL KIPP, WDEL’s tape recorder operator Curtis Grey, and (probably) the free agent courtesan stenographer and Castle hagiographer Celia Cohen.

Did any of those “journalists” think to ask even one question about Castle’s most recent vote of confidence in George Bush? Do they even know that Castle voted to support President Bush on HR 1591, stabbing his constituents in the back?

Don’t make me laugh.
