Duncan Black Makes a Great Point
Today’s botched announcement that the service men and women (who Michael Castle treats like so much disposable human garbage) get to be deloyed to Iraq for 15 straight months prompted Eschaton to post this:
Call to Service
As far as I can remember, there hasn’t been a single plea for people to enlist in the armed services from a prominent figure since this began. It isn’t simply that Operation Yellow Elephant was a failure, it’s that they didn’t try. We’re paying record amounts in retention bonuses (not something I have a problem with), and now extending troop deployment times from one year to 15 months.
But, no patriotic call to service. Not even from St. McCain of Arabia. Odd.
He is right. If this open ended occupation is such a grand idea – why isn’t anybody talking up the virtues of taking part?
yup
it is odd
damned unpatriotic too
that is a great point. I think we all no the answer. Perhaps that would be a great question to ask a candidate in the coming elections.
yes.
The DEMs who voted for and have funded this war should have stood up and asked for more voluteers all along the way and set up war bonds.
Can’t have it both ways.
Now we have a horribly strained military defense.
