Atkins, the unkillable GOP Rasputin, to be killed again today (UPDATED)

Filed in Uncategorized by on April 19, 2007

Atkins is going to try and peel enough votes away from the GOP candidate in the 41st to swing this to the Democrats as one last FU!!

So….

The Republicans are poised to release more of the sordid details found during the House Ethics Committee’s investigation into Atkins’ wild night of drinking, driving and domestic violence and the accompanying abuse of office as he tried to dodge the consequences. They have scheduled a press conference Thursday afternoon in Wilmington.

Republican Majority Leader Richard C. Cathcart says the press conference is the right thing to do. “I feel an obligation to release this stuff, because it’s the public’s right and the press’ right to see that information,” he said.

UPDATE: So it is not today.  If Gilligan used pressure to keep this Atkins stuff quiet in order to split the Republican vote on the day of the elections – I’d say that would make Gilligan a scumbag.

The guy resigned. You have to think that his write in campaign is no better than election tampering.

Crap – now I have to decide between watching this Atkins press conference, or watching Gonzales lie his ass off. If I leave now I can go get another case of popcorn from Costco.

Releasing the info will only solidify his sex, booze, and rock-n-roll base. Republicans better watch out lest they turn Atkins into an underdog slacker hero. If half this stuff turns out to be true about Atkins even I will be forced to stand in awe, if only for a moment.

his sex, booze, and rock-n-roll base.

OK, that was hyperbole. His rel base is the Christian right, and the only thing they like better than a perfect man is an allegedly reformed man. These are the people who voted for Bush twice.

  4. WOW
    this is big
ya gotta do what ya gotta do DE GOP, the whole state thanks you.

  5. jason330 says:

You want the truth? Atkins is the twisted homunculus offspring of the GOP’s sexual liaison with George Bush.

    (Mumble, mumble, mutter, grumble..)

    Hear me out!!

I know I turn everything into how bad Bush is, but here is the deal. The passive acceptance of evil, the casual toleration of evil – is evil.

Bush had the Republicans regard party affiliation above every other quality when picking office holders.

    Character? Big whoop.
    Competence? Yeah…right.
“Conservative”? Here are the keys to the city.

That’s how you get an Atkins. That’s how you get a Gonzales. That’s how you get a Tom Delay. That’s how you get a Rumsfeld. That’s how you get a Wayne Smith.

Dave Crossan and Karl Rove did this and Mike Castle turned a blind eye to it because he was getting some short term gain out of it.

    That’s why Atkins is Atkins.

What the hell else can they say about the guy? The only thing that could portray his character in a worse light is if he was sacking religious retreats, murdering nuns and raping monks. And I’m pretty sure even he isn’t that bad.

  7. Rebecca says:

    Hee, hee, hee!
You reap what you sow. You are so right Jason!

  8. Tyler Nixon says:

Come on, Jason, we all know by now that Bush and his neocon toties don’t care one iota about Republicans or even conservatives generally. It is ALL about loyalty to the Bushes, for the Bushes, and…well, TO the Bushes. Just like during Poppy Bush’s era. It’s the old Bonesman mentality with their bizarre blood oaths and such.

That’s why you get not only flunkies but evil flunkies. They are nothing but a filthy scourge on the Republican Party and conservatism, as much as on America. They always have been.

Surely you have read those accounts of the criteria for the replacement U.S. attorneys they wanted. It was not about being Republican or conservative, it was about being a “loyal Bushie”. As long as you are willing to sieg heil them, right off a cliff if necessary, that is all they are ever interested in.

If they cared about the GOP or conservatism even a scintilla they would never have so deftly co-opted them into such unparalleled scorn and disrepute. The Bush era will end with a long overdue exorcism of these people from American government, politics, and thankfully for the country, from the GOP.

The way they have systematically infected, purged, and utterly corrupted my party is not good for our country, any more than the weakened, ineffectual Democratic party has been for the last 8-10 years (until this one).

Bush is like an all-consuming black hole, imploding all progress and good faith in American politics today. Get rid of him and his filth from the equation and I truly believe there are people of good faith and integrity from both major parties who will step up and take a real shot at tackling the challenges ahead. God help us if not. As a partisan you may not want the GOP to clean house but as an American you should take some heart, at least, in that prospect.

  9. jason330 says:

    Tyler,

You’re right I may have used the term Republican to loosely. But my main problem with people like Castle is that they saw it happening and did nothing. As long as the sun seemed to be shining on Bush – they were great with whatever anti-American bullshit he cared to pull.

Castle was Bush’s campaign chair TWICE, and yet tries to go around saying that he has always had differences with him.

    It boggles the mind.

  10. Tyler Nixon says:

On this we most definitely agree. Now he is backing McCain. Even more mind boggling.
