Cathcart’s Catharthis Canceled

Filed in National by on April 19, 2007

Here is what I think happened.

Knowing that he was really, really, really going to be toast after the 1:00 press conference – John Atkins put pressure on some big R’s and reiterated his threat to clean out the GOP’s skeleton closet, basement, Raider’s of the Lost Arc-type storage facility.

Presto! No press conference.

UPDATE: Then again… maybe Nancy is right in the comments. If Gilligan and top Dems on the ethics committe decided to throw a last minute legal curve ball in order to keep Atkins write in campaign viable  – then I’d have to say that they were being scumbags.    I guess we’ll know in the fullness of time.

  1. I think it was the unknowns in quesstions of law that pulled the announcement along with the any extra pressure from big R’s.

Celia ripped the DE GOP a new one implying this was a partison move and they had no where to hide.

Top DEMs on the Ethics Committee and Atkins own lawyer applied questions of law that Cathcart had not prepared for.

Maybe. But I think Cathcart sounded ready to take on the legal side of it.

OMG, when Leahy finished blasting Gonzo as the hearing wrapped up, the audience in the Senate gallery spontaneously started singing “Nahnah nah nah, hey hey hey, goo-oood-bye…” etc. I am not making this up…

anon, where are you watching it?!? Both C-Span’s were on floor coverage last I looked.

That is too hilarious. That song/chant is infectious. Once it gets started it’s hard to stop!

    Let’s hope it comes true.

Damn you Jason…sometimes I think you mention Cathcart’s name just to draw me out!

Even scarier…I agree with your sentiment…on something involving him!

I need to give my baby girl a kiss on her forehead. I think I will be having nightmares tonight. Randy and Jason thinking alike…the horrors.

I think that Ethics Committee members,Gilligan and probably Keeley, protested to Cathcart what went public, that they had a right to be in on any change in the what is done via that committee. They do not protest the procedure in order to foster some clandestine write-in campaign thingy.

There is most likely a lawful procedure that wasn’t followed here.

I assume that among what was going to be “shared” was the Delaware municipality police report.

Oberley, on the other hand, is the one who would have thrown around some legal curve balls but still, not to foster a write-in.

Oberley’s whole defense is that Atkins is sticking to his story that he is not running a write-in and thereby the GOPers should not be striking “back”/ Oberley will be holding them up with privacy-rights stuff I guess.

Cancel the press conference. translation: Adkins is pissed off and will spill dirt on both partys.
