Democrats in the 41st should Vote for the Republican
Kavips is right. Our guy Lynn Bullock supports the NRG proposal. I don’t know the guy – but that is a bad sign. Other bad signs include the Sussex County Democratic Party in general being (for the most part) less progressive than the Republicans on land use and development. The root of the matter is an old boy network that mocks traditional Democratic values. Like Jim Vaughn , they have “D’s” next to their names – but have very little in common with the party of Bobby Kennedy and Barack Obama.
Greg Hastings supports Bluewater Wind, and has expressed interested in solar energy. If hastings wins we have one less “D” but one more vote for a sane energy policy.
On a personal note, I think it would be a damn shame if Atkins swings this to Bullock. The Republicans did everything right.
That is a bold stance, Jason. I am not sure that I am ready to give up the seat, but your argument is compelling.
There is something to be said for having the majority and setting the agenda. No doubt about that.
Aye, Its a tough call and I struggled after hearing what I thought could never happen.
Simply put, the choice is between a short term political gain that has indeed been a long time coming, versus a cataclysmic long term environmental change, that has been sprung on us quite shortly.
Even if the House of Delegates does flip, one is forced to wonder whether the victory will be in name only, since every piece of legislation still goes through Adam’s drawers?
A referendum on Blue Water wind in NRG’s hometown, if successful for the Wind candidate……….., would transcribe all of our ramblings on this topic, into a concise event that even Delaware’s politicians could readily understand.
It needs to resound clear. Delaware wants Blue Water Wind. NRG costs votes!
That’s the choice that really lies before us. To do what’s best for the party, or what is best for all citizens………
It is scary, but where each of us will stand on this issue will depend on how each one of our characters is comprised, and where, indeed, our true loyalties lie. It will sorely test us, as we consider just what cost we are truly willing to pay, to have this ‘wind thing’ become reality.
(If only he’d kept his mouth shut……….)
Is this your attempt at fair and balanced?
This seat won’t give us the majority anyway, we’re still one short. However, we should get the majority in 2008.
Meanwhile, there’s another Public Service Commission hearing on May 8th. CALL THE GOVERNOR at 302-744-4101 and ask her to ask Delmarva Power to negotiate a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with Blue Water Wind. We need lots of calls so ask all your family and friends to call too! Put it out on your email list. CALL THE GOVERNOR! THEN CALL THE GOVERNOR AGAIN!
Kavips, the Delaware Constitution forbids referendums.
I thought it would be fitting to endorse a Republican in order to recognize and commemorate yesterday’s snowball fight in hell between Satan and Ronald Reagan.
Ouch, that last post….
Nonetheless, my utmost respect to you, Jason.
The task of making clean, sustainable energy the norm for the future is a huge challenge we all must embrace.
Sadly the biggest obstacle is not technology or popular will, but politics as usual.
Those willing to face down the archaic polluters who care about nothing but profits need our support, no matter what their party.
Given the Democratic muscle in Delaware I wish there were more D’s like you with the vision and courage to stand with the public interest rather than their corporate cronies.
Regards.
Citizen’s for a Better Sussex’s Joan Deaver says that she went to the debate in Millsboro and came away with an endorsement for the Independent candidate not even mentioned here.
