From Celia: Copeland and his caucus sent Democratic Gov. Ruth Ann Minner a letter, asking the administration to cut state spending before raising taxes — a classic Republican campaign position.
The letter also doesn’t identify which programs should be cut — another classic Republican campaign position. Instead they are shirking their duties and grandstanding ask Minner to do the dirty work:
Dear Governor Minner,
The Senate Republican Caucus hereby requests that your financial staff compile a broad-based recommendation for cost-savings by state government…
Apparently the Republicans want Democrats to take the heat for cutting programs, while Republicans take credit for cutting spending.
Earth to Charlie: Minner can’t raise taxes without your caucus. Republicans hold a majority in the House. You voted for all that spending you are now blaming on Minner. If you don’t like spending, don’t vote for it. If you don’t like tax increases, don’t vote for them. Pull your thumb out of your butt and publish a list of programs you want to cut.

18 members of the Delaware Legislature voted against the budget last year. All of them were Republicans, by my recollection.
That’s 30% of the total legislature and over half of the Republicans in Dover voting down the operational budget.

And she won’t. But let’s not kid ourselves. All of the sponsors of the tax hikes are Democrats.
Spending has gone up astronomically during the Carper-Minner years. The GOP has a small responsibility for that, but the lion’s share goes to the Governors and the Senate, whose majority is more powerful than the House’s due to its arcane rules.

Charlie Copeland can still be a GOP hero by bottling up any tax increases and revealing which services he would cut.
I’m sure he can start with the tens of millions of dollars spent on “consultants” by DelDOT, many of which are designing roads we can’t afford to build for 20 years or more.
poor Jr Birdman, he spent all that money on anonymous letters and cards attacking Charlie… and Charlie isn’t running.
