Don’t eat your wheaties
“I regard him as among the most gifted and valuable public servants of his generation,” wrote Norman Podhoretz, the former editor of conservative opinion journal Commentary. “I find it inconceivable that a man of his sterling character, who is also famous for his lawyerly scrupulousness, could deliberately have told lies to a grand jury, or for that matter to anyone else.”
“The message sent by this man’s actions and the posturing of his cronies that Mr. Libby has been convicted wrongfully for innocent misstatements, at most legal technicalities, is an appalling approval of outrageous behavior that undermines the justice system and undermines faith in government,” wrote Steven C. Hychka, whose home address was blacked out by the court, as were all the others.
“He is a man of strong views, some of which I do not share,” Kissinger wrote. “But in my observations, he pursued his objectives with integrity and a sense of responsibility. I would never have associated his actions for which he was convicted with his character. . . . Having served in the White House and under pressure, I have seen how difficult it sometimes is to recall precisely a particular sequence of events. This does not justify the action, but it might help you consider mitigating circumstances.”
So there you have it. He is a good guy, so there is no way he committed a crime. Wouldn’t you expect better from conservatives that supposedly look to the rule of law as foundation of our democracy?
You know if you go visit a prison most of the guys in there will tell you they are good people too

They are all about “personal responsibility” until they are the person who is supposed to be responsible.
Then, all of a sudden, LOOK! Sandy Berger! LOOK! Clinton got a blow job!! LOOK 9-11 !!!
Pitiful.
it is so much easier to make sure other people are held to a higher standard than to hold oneself it seems.
“it is so much easier to make sure other people are held to a higher standard than to hold oneself it seems.”
I think you just nailed the essence of the argument linking Clinton’s crime Libby’s crime: there is no reason why Scooter Libby should be held to a higher standard than President Clinton.
Although after the appeals process, this will probably all be moot.

Thanks for commenting I really appreciate it.
I’ll be sure to remember that excuse the next time I go to court for something.
“Donviti”
“Yes, your honor”
“you are being sentenced to 30 days community service”
“But, your honor! Clinton didn’t go to jail”
GET OFF MY FUCKING PLANET!
“you are being sentenced to 30 days community service”
If you only get 30 days community service for lying under oath in a deposition, it’s probably a good indicator that your lawyer is blowing the judge (my apologies for bringing up BJ’s in yet another comment).
If you get 30 months in prison for lying under oath, then you might want to appeal the sentance by citing legal precedent (i.e. “Clinton didn’t go to jail”).
The same crime (lying under oath) resulted in two enormously differnt punishments (Loss of law license vs. 30 days in prison). That is unjust regardless of what planet you are on. That’s the point.
there is no reason why Scooter Libby should be held to a higher standard than President Clinton.
Simply false. One was abetting treason if not outright treason.
In the Libby case (had he been a Democrat, I’m sure you would agree) the sentence should be life or death by execution.
Top AL Gore Aid Burns CIA Agent!
AP- The revealation that Vice President Al Gore’s top aid, Scooter Libby, may have been invloved in the outing of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame have sent shock waves through the Capital.
Plame had been working on tracking weapons of mass dectruction when she was outed by Gore’s aid. Republicans and Democrats alike are calling for Gore’s impeachment.
“This is a horrible crime” said Senate Democrat Joe Lieberman “Congress must take this type of treason ver seriously.”
dh,
please, please, please spare the tired clintonian comparisons. They cheapen any semblance of reason you have.
donviti,
What we have here is a special prosecutor who had a hard on for the administration and put members of administration in positions where they had to perjur themselves. You see, according to Bob Novak, the special prosecutor knew all along it was not Libby, but proceeded to force the issue knowing he could bring them down on perjury charges.

Now, if this was done to a Democrat, you would be lameting the shameless police state where special prosecutors can flagrantly use the law to entrap those they do not like.
But I guess you will deny Novak’s opinion here, because it won’t play well with your conscious.. Actually, it probbly won’t bother you. Ends justify the means.
The URL was too long. I broke it up here.

donviti,
When can expect to see the first draft of your apology to Scooter Libby?
What we have here is a special prosecutor who had a hard on for the administration and put members of administration in positions where they had to perjur themselves.
You are talking about Ken Starr and the Clinton’s right?
“You are talking about Ken Starr and the Clinton’s right?”
That is probably the most intelligent response we could expect from you. But school is out this week, maybe you can work on your skills.
cold day in hell brother. How come you seem to know he is innocent, but some of the best attorney’s in the country couldn’t prove it.
Sorry Chrissy, No apology. I stand behind that radical judge and that partisan prosecutor that was appointed by the Bush administration.
“Sorry Chrissy, No apology. I stand behind that radical judge and that partisan prosecutor that was appointed by the Bush administration.”
Guilty of perjury but not guilty of outing her. And that comes from the guy whom she was outed to. Why let the facts get in the way of your opinions.
And since he didn’t do it, and the prosecutor knew it, then he should have never been put in a position to perjur about something he did not do. Classic entrapment.
and yet the brilliant attorneys didn’t scream entrapment.
gosh, maybe you should quit the theatre and take up lawyering. You seem to have all the answers.
so silly me, but he lied to mislead even the judge said so, so I guess he entrapped himself by not telling the truth right off the bat.
Chris esq, has a nice ring to it.
Special counsel Patrick J. Fitzgerald is considered beyond reproach by career federal prosecutors, the jury was of Libby’s peers, and the judge — a Bush appointee — said the proof of Libby’s guilt was “overwhelming.”
Yep, classic entrapment, the guy is a national hero, for outing plame! and covering Cheney’s ass.
What part are you not getting NUMBSCULL. The guy she was “OUTED” to, told Fitzpatrick when this all began WHO it was, and it was NOT Libby. But Fitzpatrick decided to “Find out” who it was DESPITE KNOWING WHO IT WAS. He held, and spent money on, an investigation to find out something he ALREADY KNEW. Why aren’t we flipping out on him for wasting our time and money. IT WAS NOT LIBBY. NOVAK HAS MADE THAT CLEAR. It was nothing more than a witch hunt to give Fitzpatrick a way to get some cache.
He then asks questions which he knows Libby and others will either avoid answering or fabricate answers to in an effort to protect national security. He then calls them on it, and hangs them for lying. What was the whole point? It had NOTHING to do with who outed Plame.
You don’t need to be a lawyer to figure this one out. Just try using that thing you call a brain.
Why aren’t we flipping out on him for wasting our time and money.
because he wasted less than $300,000 dollars.
Also, because it has a heck of a lot to do with that little thingy going on in Iraq.
Again, I point back to your awesome lawyering skills. You must be in the wrong profession. You seem to have all the answers.
I say you try to get on his team of lawyers, write up an appeal to have the entire thing thrown out.
for the life of me I can’t fathom how that crackpot team of his missed this.
STOP THE PRESSES! DEL LIB COMMENTER CHRIS CRIES MISTRAIL….AND PROVES IT!
now get on up to D.C. where you are needed. I’ll hold the fort down while you are gone.
“now get on up to D.C. where you are needed. I’ll hold the fort down while you are gone.”
I always knew you were confused, but last time I checked D.C. s SOUTH of Delaware.
“for the life of me I can’t fathom how that crackpot team of his missed this.”
Maybe because he just made this known. He even says that Fitzpatrick would not let him disclose this until the trial was over….wonder why.
But wait until the appear. I, and Scooter Libby, will be vindicated. So start working on that apology.
And since he didn’t do it, and the prosecutor knew it, then he should have never been put in a position to perjur about something he did not do.
Is this the new Republican “post-Whitewater” legal theory? I like it!!
And since he didn’t do it, and the prosecutor knew it, then he should have never been put in a position to perjur about something he did not do.

I’ll take a Corona with that twist, please
I’ll be in Mexico next week, my first one will be a toast to you Nancy!
