My “sound off” on Iraq

Filed in National by on June 18, 2007

If you are familiar with the Delaware State News’ “sound off” feature you know what a crazy-ass right-wing freak show they have going on. I thought I’d add my voice to the chorus.

I’m getting tired of all these liberals saying America is losing in Iraq. I think it is too early to tell if the “surge” which the President thought up and that Michael Castle supported is working. In about 50 or 100 years if things are like they are today, maybe then we can call this President a failure and Michael Castle’s support of him wrongheaded. Until then these liberals need to just clam up.

  1. Maria Evans says:

The troop “surge” idea came out of the Iraq Study Group Report, pages 71 and 73, the President didn’t “think it up.”

    Page 71:

This on-the-job training could be best done by imbedding more U.S. military personnel in Iraqi deployed units. The number of imbedded personnel would be based on the recommendation of our military commanders in Iraq, but it should be large enough to accelerate the development of a real combat capability in Iraqi Army units. Such a mission could involve 10,000 to 20,000 American troops instead of the 3,000 to 4,000 now in this role.

    Page 73:

We could, however, support a short-term redeployment or surge of American combat forces to stabilize Baghdad, or to speed up the training and equipping mission, if the U.S. commander in Iraq determines that such steps would be effective.

I think Jason was trying to give W some credit that he doesn’t deserve. Jase, we have to remember that he doesn’t think much at all. Cheney must have thought it up… 🙂

Well you are both right to some extent. maria evans is correct that the troop surge came out of the Iraq study group. We’ll call those citation “Surge 1.0”

Bush promptly dismissed that surge (because he thought he could milk the “If you are not with us you are with the terrorist” for one more mid-term election. He was wrong about that. So he “thought up” “surge 1.5”.

I was trying to give Bush credit in the same way brainless “sound off” contributors give Bush credit every day for validating thier stupidity with ever more stupidity.

    Thanks for reading maria evans.
