Jack Markell to Mike Castle: WELL? DO SOMETHING ALREADY!!!

Filed in National by on June 20, 2007

Okay. The comment is not directed squarly at Castle,  and I’m reading between the lines a bit, but Markell’s simple direct statement raises a question, what in Gods’ name is Castle doing in Washington?

If he is not there to support “the basic dictum that the enforcement and prosecution of the law, shouldn’t be a political game” then what the hell is he there for?

Mr. Gonzales should resign

This past week the Senate rejected a bid to conduct a vote of no confidence in Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, and in response Gonzales has restated his position that he will be serving out the remainder of President Bush’s term in office as our country’s most visible law enforcement official.

As a Democrat I believe that the Attorney General’s positions have been misguided and just plain wrong on issues of central importance to our American identity, such as personal privacy and torture. Mr. Gonzales’s current scandal, however, is just plain perplexing. If there is anything that Republicans and Democrats should be able to agree on it should be the basic dictum that the enforcement and prosecution of the law, shouldn’t be a political game.

We cannot play politics with the rule of law – that would be contrary to everything our legal system stands for.

Mr. Gonzales should resign. I hope you will take this opportunity to post a comment about how you feel about this issue.

-Jack Markell

You’d think Mike Castle would know all of that and yet without having to be told by Jack Markell.   Gonzales’s malfeaseance should be a bi-partisan issue, but Castle is still mum (18 months and counting) on Alberto Gonzales.

Clearly, those comments were directed at Senator Castle.

    Hardy har…

Has the great moderate Mr. Castle ever uttered a word of concern regarding our lawless and out of control Attoney General?

    Okay then.

…and for the record Carper voted for the “No Confidence” measure and Biden was busy running for President.

  4. The “no confidence” measure has all the weight of a New Year’s Resolution.

Mr. Gonzales has proven himself to be inadequate- I agree with you there but as in every administration being of questionable competence is not cause for removal.

At the US Attorney level, the political game is how they got there. Why then are we surprised when it becomes part of why they are asked to leave?

Gonzalez should go, but much like what I thought of the Libby isuue, I don’t think it should stop there. I can not digest that these were acts derived from their so-called solitary sources. Nope, don’t buy it, didn’t then, and likey won’t in the near future. Don’t misunderstand, I believe Libby and Gonzalez were very much involved, but I just can’t resolve that they were the brain trusts in either case. They just happened to be the ‘firewall’ in front of the brain.
