UPDATED: Joe Biden Rebukes Mike Castle and “centerists republicans” for their lack of spine

NOT A SHOCKER:Many sources indicate that Joe Biden will be abiding by the rules of Delaware’s political aristocracy and will not be calling out Mike Castle for his spinelessness by name. (Reason number 398 that I will not be voting for Joe to be the Democratic nominee.)

Joe Biden took the unusual step of blasting “centerist Republicans” Mike Castle. Public criticism of a fellow member of the Delaware Congressional delegation is unheard of in the gentile stratosphere of Delaware politics, but Biden sees the accommodation that centrist Republicans are continue to offer Bush as a major obstacle to progress in Iraq. WDEL had the story in heavy rotation yesterday but downplayed the public rebuke angle.

Here is the full quote:

“Ever since Democrats took back Congress, we’ve been working to build pressure on the Administration and our Republican colleagues to change course in Iraq. That pressure and the facts on the ground are starting to produce results, as more and more Republicans have stopped backing the President and started looking for ways to work with us to bring our soldiers home and to bring this war to a responsible end.

“I’ve said since last fall, the only way this President will ever change his Iraq policy will be when he looks east down Pennsylvania Avenue and realizes he has lost the support of his own party. We’re seeing that happen and I predict we’re going to see a lot more of it in the coming weeks. That’s how this war will end.

In his statement Biden stopped short of calling out Castle by name, but this appears to be just the beginning of Biden’s “straight talk” when it comes to our chicken-shit representative in Congress. Sources close to Biden have indicated that he is pissed off about Castle’s ongoing hollow threats to defy the President. I have some feelers out to firm that up and see if Biden is ready to call Castle out by name you will read it here first.
