Tommywonk on al Qaeda & everything bad that happens is good for Bush
“In the slow blink of a blind eye”
Over at All Spin Zone, Daniel DiRito sums up the bad news:
In the slow blink of a blind eye, we are now being told that al Qaeda has fully reconstituted itself to a level similar to that before 9/11.
It has been 2,130 days since al Qaeda attacked the U.S. World War II lasted 1,365 days, from the attack on Pearl Harbor to Japan’s signing of the instrument of surrender on board the USS Missouri. Five years and ten months after 9/11, the outlaw organization that attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon is strong as ever. The same can not be said of the United States.

“…al Qaeda has fully reconstituted itself to a level similar to that before 9/11”I heard this on the radio this morning. Guess what? The WDEL newsreader (I did not catch the name) next sentence described how that this STRENGTHENS George Bush.
*Sigh*
Oh and one more thing. According to Michael Castle, “We are safer now than we were five years ago.”
Repubs don’t even have to spin anymore. Everyone in the media takes the default position that more terror or the possibility of more terror is good for Bush.
It is also important to note, as the NYT public editor pointed on it Donviti’s post yesterday, Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia did not exist on 11 September 2001.
Identify the following Presidents from these quotes:
President A:
“The threat is nearly invisible in ordinary ways. It is a crisis of confidence. It is a crisis that strikes at the very heart and soul and spirit of our national will.”
President B:
“First, I understand why the American people are — you know, they’re tired of the war. There is — people are — there is a war fatigue in America. It’s affecting our psychology.”
A: Carter?
B: Someone who’s English is a second language.
Cracker beat me to it.
A. Jimmy Carter: July 15, 1979
B. “W” Bush: today July 12, 2007
And if you missed the question from Helen Thomas, you may be surprised by the answer.
And now I’ll be glad to answer a few questions, starting with Ms. Thomas.
Q Mr. President, you started this war, a war of your choosing, and you can end it alone, today, at this point — bring in peacekeepers, U.N. peacekeepers. Two million Iraqis have fled their country as refugees. Two million more are displaced. Thousands and thousands are dead. Don’t you understand, you brought the al Qaeda into Iraq.
THE PRESIDENT: Actually, I was hoping to solve the Iraqi issue diplomatically. That’s why I went to the United Nations and worked with the United Nations Security Council, which unanimously passed a resolution that said disclose, disarm or face serious consequences. That was the message, the clear message to Saddam Hussein. He chose the course.
Q Didn’t we go into Iraq —
THE PRESIDENT: It was his decision to make
(Remember we surprised bombed his hideout before the countdown had expired……)
