Farewell SSN-708 USS Minneapolis St. Paul

Filed in Uncategorized by on August 3, 2007

ssn708_2.jpgI heard a rumor that my old boat was getting decommed, but dang, I didn’t think it would really happen.  The boat was pretty old I guess.  Man the times I had on that thing…

Minneapolis-St. Paul is scheduled to decommission on 27 September 2007, and was deactivated on June 22, 2007[1]; upon her decommissioning, for the first time since 1934 there will be no commissioned ship in the US Navy named for any city in Minnesota.

I don’t want to know what you mean by this.

  2. I served on some rust buckets also. Didn’t like it when I was there but I do miss the experiences and history.

Water hours and no salt water showers with no air conditioning was bad.

    Don & Mike,

If you haven’t already, you might want to see if there’s a reunion group from your ship. There are many, many such groups. My dad has been meeting with his WWII shipmates for decades and they always have a great time. They also include the vets from Korea and Viet Nam at their reunions, there are so few WWII vets left. Google the ship name and I’ll bet you find a reunion group. I hope you have as much fun as Dad has over the years.
