If the creator of this represents the best talent on the left, I no longer have any concerns abut 2008. My 7 year-old writes better scripts!

LOL! I would be ashamed to say I’m a Republican when my president was clearly perpetrating a fraud by writing a report for a General who is supposed to be giving his own “objective” account of the war.

There has been so much fraud and missing billions of dollars associated w/ the Bush administration–all overlooked by Castle & the rest of the Republicans in Congress–that the word “Republican” should be referred to as the “‘R’ word.”

Chris just just keep repeating “iraq goin good…lotta progess…” If that doesn’t work try hitting your hand with a hammer.

No need to. Petreaus’s report, backed up by Michael O’Hanlon and Kenneth Pollack (both registered Democrats by the way) from the Brookings Institution, make that clear. I will put the link again. I did before and you conveniently had nothing to say about it. So does that work for you? Putting your fingers in your ears and repeating “Please, no good news, please no good news, please no good news!”

You are sooooo July 2007. O’Hanlon and Pollack have backed off that nonsense within 48 hours.

    Try to keep up.

  6. Chris says:

Perhaps you need to keep up. In the latest release from the “The Iraq Trip Report”

“Nevertheless, especially given the difficulties of finding a viable alternative strategy (a “Plan B”) for Iraq that would safeguard U.S. interests, we conclude that the progress made so far argues for giving the surge and its attendant military and political strategies more time. However, we caution that the U.S. is not yet irrevocably headed for success in Iraq, so the Administration and the Congress should remain vigilant. The change in course in Iraq has produced enough success to warrant supporting its continuation at least through the remainder of 2007, but progress should be continuously reassessed, especially beginning again in early 2008.”

I never said that they said it was a “slam dunk” only that progress is being made and continuing it is currently the best option. As evidenced by above. But again, since it disagrees with you, your brain can’t take it in.

I think that you are the one not keeping up, Chris.

    >a href=”http://www.csis.org/index.php?option=com_csis_pubs&task=view&id=3994″>Anthony Cordesman was on the same trip and disagrees with the relatively rosy assessment O’Hanlon and Pollack wrote for the NYT. And Jason is quite right, these two have definitely back-pedaled on their certainty since.

Mr. Cordesman finds slim rays of hope in the current team, but finds a great deal of uncertainty in the current approach and options to rescue this mission waning. He argues that the case for continued long-term patience with this process is very tenuous and relies on a fair amount of lucky breaks for us. And on an Iraqi government that will make this work.

Shoot, I hate it when I mess up the html. Here is the right link:

And you have to hit the Download PDF button to see the whole report.

  9. Thanks for that link to the Cordesman report, OM.
