News Journal slips up and tells the truth about Mike Castle

Filed in National by on August 26, 2007

The NJ editors, who view their job as cheerleading for the status quo, slipped up and admitted that Mike Castle has refused to break with George Bush on the Iraq war.

Not exactly storming the Castle

U.S. Rep. Mike Castle, R-Del., has been under a tad of pressure this summer from anti-Iraq war activists. And the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has listed him as a target if he runs for re-election, as he says he plans to do.

All of which might add up to a tough time a year from now for the two-term Delaware governor and eight-term member of Congress.

But so far, those who oppose Castle, primarily for his refusal to abandon President Bush’s Iraq policies, have no high-profile Democratic candidate to back.

Someone at the NJ is in big trouble for allowing that little bit of candor to slip in (despite the fact that the blurb gos on to denigrate Chris Bullock, Dennis Spivack and Jerry Northington.

  1. Dave says:

Yeah. How dare they denigrate Jerry Northrup?!

Especially when his name’s not Jerry Northrup!

Why is it that I know the name of your fringe candidates and you don’t?

  2. Celia Cohen:
“Castle is still Castle, easier to leave alone than take out. The Delaware Democrats appear to have other priorities these days”

    wishful thinking?

I do think that it is fair to say that the DEMs up against Castle are not particularly “high profile”. (plus everyone is leaving out KHN!)

  3. OT – FYI
Tommywonk has a post up about BlueWater Wind rep on WILM radio today at 11AM

  4. jason330 says:

Dave – Did you read that Rolling Stone article. You voted for that TWICE man – where’s the mea culpa?

  5. Where’s the link to that NJ story?

  6. jason330 says:

Sorry Mike. WordPress is f’ing up big time.

  7. Mike Castle says:

This war just needs to grind to the end.

  8. Dave says:

Jason — Did you vote for my Dad? Did you vote for Bill Lee? I didn’t think so.

  9. watcher in the skies says:

Sad but true, the Democrats have lots of ambitious young-ish office holders (Denn, Coons, Markell) but none willing to take on even a crumbling Castle. Sorry true believers, none of the names above can do the job b/c they lack the money, organization and name recognition required.

  10. jason330 says:

Denn, Coons, Carney, Markell any and all would have crushed Castle last time and this time.

    True dat.

    Dave –

Minner/Carney is so terrible “Happy” Al Levin only donated what…$500.00…$1,000? instead of the customary $5,000 he gives Democrats.

How does it feel to be busting your ass for a guy who supported you Dad’s opponent?

Speaking of his support for Democrats – I’m working up a post about the big fundraiser Levin is putting on for Biden. It should be quite the event from what I’m hearing.

  11. Dave says:

    Jason — Simple question.

DID YOU VOTE FOR RUTH ANN TWICE?

  12. Rebecca says:

Reality check. When you are playing in the serious power game it matters more who takes your phone calls than what party they are affiliated with. Biden will never be president but he’s likely to get into the cabinet and that’s a nice call to be able to place and get answered. Levin may be a Republican but he’s not stupid.

  13. jason330 says:

Oh crap. You got me Dave.

After Minner/Carney decided to ignore Osama Bin Laden, attacked Iraq on false pretenses, with no plan for the occupation beyond openng the flood gates of fraud and abuse costing tax payers hundreds of billions of dollars – I should have voted against them.

  14. Dave says:

    Thought so.

  15. r smitty says:

Hey Jason, I like your logic.

I never voted for BushCheney, I mean CheneyBush, I mean CheneyCheney because I hate them both. So, DID YOU VOTE FOR MINNER TWICE?

Rebecca, thank you for your logic. I have been trying to make people understand that for a while now. People are harping on that aspect like it’s the albatross on his neck. My opinion has always been that if you can’t govern for the people, but instead have to govern for the party, then you are humanless being. Going further, if you govern for your own personal gains, then you are CheneyBush.

  16. Kilroy Was Here says:

Jason! I’ll be honest with you, I voted for Minner once and that was against Dave’s father. I’ll be honest with you, after I realized how fucked up she was and left Carper’s cronies in place I decided to end my vote for the person and decided to become an active Republican at vote straight party. Integrity you say, so you fine with Bill Clinton leave pecker tracks all over the Oval Office from his respectful affair with that woman!

Jason, since you claim to be a man of integrity why don’t you answer the question, did you vote twice for Minner ?

Minner’s answers to Homeland Security was changing the lock on her liquor cabinet and hiding her cigarettes in another place.

Bil Clinton answer to safe sex is “padded headboards”

The next time Carney wants to bike to the bay, let’s make it to the San Francisco Bay and a one way ticket.

Jack Markell’s answers to public school reform is to outsource it to Rodel !
Maybe he can outsource the duties of the State Treasure to his bubby at WSFS.
