Around the Horn Friday: Counterfeit Disgust Edition

Filed in Uncategorized by on September 14, 2007

Well, it has been 6 years since September 11th, 2001. Never before had I seen a united country like we were that week. And never have I seen an event perverted for political purposes on that scale either. Jason put quite a fine point on the issue this week with a post that sparked quite a bit of complaint from the right. Frank Knotts posted a prayer of remembrance and showed that he is ready for this war of terror to last for lifetimes. And then preemptively turned off comments. Duffy posted on how disgusted he was and promptly lost his taste for blogging. A new addition to AthF, Delaware Dem tried to referee the issue by disagreeing with Jason and Dave Burris. As for the least political remembrance of 9/11 (a difficult achievement) I tip my hat to Joe M at Merit Bound Alley.

In an effort to piss of Al Mascitti even more, I’ll mention that Kilroy has been busy all week casting Minner, Carney and Markell as haters for the whole DMA thing. Even when DSEA explains their position, it ain’t good enough. I just want to know if the DSEA letter actually mis-spelled dispute or if Kilroy was retyping the letter himself. In related news, Dana catches a flub by a charter school that could have been disasterous. Who needs stupid regulations anyway?

In the long anticipated report from General Patraeus, there were many posts spawned. Ryan S. stands by the White House report and is encouraged. Somewhat surprisingly, so is Kavips in a well-reasoned change of attitude, if not strategy.

As usual, some of the best blogging has been done by Tom Noyes. He has good stuff on the Christina plan for the City as well as some excellent analysis of the final year of the Carney/Markell primary. Be sure to read his coverage of the Bluewater Wind -Delmarva brinkmanship and possible dirty dealing by Delmarva

I particularly like the Kathy Griffin story covered by Mat Marshall from the “Damn that’s funny” side of the issue, and Paul Smith from the “she is going to burn in Hell for that one” side of the issue.

Nancy covers a brewing Middletown-DelDOT controversy with anti-semitic overtones.

Elsewhere in State government failures, Mike covers the DPC hearing over at DWA.

Ryan Mc has put Liberal Delight on hiatus while looking for a new job. He thinks prospective employers will be unwilling to hire a blogger that sometimes has opinions. Hope they don’t see the Satan worship stuff that you have on there, Ryan… I kid…

As usual, KarmicJay has a review of a movie that, like all of his reviews, inspires me to watch movies that aren’t Snakes on a Plane (which I watched on Wednesday night).

Please make sure you head over to FSP to see Dave dare Mike Protack to sue him.

Be sure to wish Mike Mahaffie a happy 19th anniversary. The flowers are a nice touch.

While surfing around swing on by to see Imparfait, the new poster at The Colossus of Rodney Rhodey. He covers the low pay and standards for substitute teachers.

This weekend is the annual Ocktoberfest in Newark. I highly recommend it and I often arrange my social life in September around it. When I go now, I remember the conversations that I had with people in 2001. It was the first time that I had been in a big social situation since 9/11 and things were still foggy about what had happened and who was responsible. I still sometimes feel equally disoriented when I think about what this country has done to the outpouring of comfort we received in those days. We have been responsible for the deaths of at least 71,985 Iraqis and 3,776 American soldiers. I can’t help feeling that we squandered something special and have betrayed the memory of those innocent lives that were snuffed out 6 years and 3 days ago.

Nah, Kilroy actually was not the cause of the misspelling of disput[sic]. DSEA did that. Go read their releases on this topic. Considering it is DSEA, it will make your head spin. Actually read my post on the recent one (I did it as an update to my original post) and you will see another DSEA grammatical wonder…or math error.

For the record, I stand by that post.

Duffy’s malaise is the same malaise we are all feeling. Yes, this is Bush’s war – but collectivly we have innocent Iraqi blood on our hands. It is a simple fact.

Wishing and hoping for it not to be true is all I hear from the Republicans right now.

I do have a wish, Jason. It has to do with you and Frightland.

  4. donviti says:

you know what’s funny is how Duffy can be so disgusted with Jason, yet we had the GOP wrapping themselves in the flag for 3 years and squashing any anti war liberals as communists, faggots and america haters.

Iraq had nothing to with the war so I can understand why Jason said we all have blood on our hands.

I championed for this stupid war because I believed bush, therefore I have blood on my hands. I’m ashamed that I fell for all the lies. We have killed, Yes WE have killed hundreds of thousands of people all to get rid of a dictator that killed tens of thousands.

we have blood on our hands as a country, we have just managed to seperate the politicians and soldiers from the citizens and people like Duffy that are pro war don’t understand this opinion.

be disgusted, call jason an asshole all you want, but to some people Murder is Murder, Killing innocent people is murder, not casualties of war and we are killing them by the thousands and we were the catalyst for a civil war that is resulting in ethnic cleansing

WEEEEE WEEEEE WEEEEE, The fucking Americans, Our fucking country, not just bush and the Congress Us. WE HAVE THE POWER TO STOP THIS WAR IF WE REALLY WANTED TO AS A NATION.

So fuck all of your holier than thou attitudes.

“but collectivly we have innocent Iraqi blood on our hands. It is a simple fact.”

    Amen, Jason. You are correct.

Those who deny it are also those who NEVER can find a single instance when the USA has intervened either overtly or covertly in an military effort and acted in a way that by international and humanitarian standards are criminal. They might admit that the effort was botched or too precipitous, but they will never declare that the effort per se was wrong.

That is quite a remarkable claim given the numerous military adventures the USA has engaged in since the onset of the 20th century until today.

It’s remarkable much deliberate blindness is required to love one’s country. Uncritical loyalties foster sociopaths.
