UPDATED: Dixiecrat Vaughn Quits: Triggers Two Special Elections
Update: How is this going to play out? The R’s got nobody for the Senate race. Maybe Feroce will take a nother stab at it but his carpet-baggery was rebuked by the voters the last time.
On the RD, the candiates are picked by the RD committee, so it will probably be 28th District’s heavy lifter Bill Carson. The net/net is Dems hold both seats.
Bruce Ennis is the heir apparent for Vaughn’s 14th Senate District – So there will be a special in Ennis’ 28th RD.
Pretty ballsy move if he does go for the Senate, considering the Blue Tide didn’t carry over to special elections.
I wonder who the R’s are going to run. Feroce? Schaeffer? (ha ha) Seems like a shoo-in for Ennis.
Ballsy?
It is an old school D district. Ennis is one of them. Do the R’s even hold district meetings?
The only R’s I’ve heard of in the 14 and 28 are Feroce and Schaefer. They hold meetings via videocams installed in each other’s bathrooms.
Vaughn, Venables & Adams (and their galpal Auntie Nancy Cookie) are all cut from the same cloth and it’s wonderful that one of them are going down. Granted I don’t wish ill will or health upon anyone, but Vaughn is a hateful old coot who deserves to go. I wish him well, but as I’ve wished for years and years and years, I wish him gone and thank god, he’s going. Now on to Adams and the Dixicrat Band……
I heard the results of a Dem committee meeting tonight is it will be Ennis–Vaughn lite from what I hear.

Dana – Ennis announced he is the candidate before I could get home from work, and I work until 5! There was no committee meeting since Vaughn made his announcement. Take that, you 14th D’s! I hope Rebecca Walker didn’t have ambitions to run, ‘cuz they slammed that door SHUT!
OK, great…NOW I am wearing egg. I just saw Loudell’s blog, so I called my source. Let’s just say I won’t cite that source anymore. When pressed, “Oh, I thought he said he was picked to run.” Mea culpa, and to my source that has been wrong before…f u, you rumor monger…although, he did tell me Walker did want it. I just want another opportunity to tell him, “f u.”
I’m not impressed with Ennis. This election is not going to be a fun one for people who are interested in change.
Hey…I am curious, if you will even ‘fess it up (and I won’t hold you to it, all things considered). Was there a process at all, or was Ennis the heir-apparent?
Forget the Senate seat — Ennis would have had it for several years now if V had been graceful enough to retire. The interesting race will be the one to replace Ennis.
There was indeed a process. The members of the District Committees from the 8th, 9th and 24th Rep. Districts all met at DelDems HQ last night. Those are the Rep Districts that fall into Senate District 14. They selected Ennis to run as the endorsed Democrat for the open seat. It was no surprise. Vaughn has been sick for a long time and failed to attend the General Assembly this year. Everyone has known this was coming. Ennis has been working to get the endorsement when he needed it.
Was it a smoke filled room? Not exactly. Did the party faithful in the District get a say? Yes. Do we agree with the party faithful in the District? Maybe not, but they are the people who will work to get him elected.
It all comes back to what I’ve been saying for the past four years. If you don’t like the party process get onto your District Committee. Bring your like-minded friends and neighbors to join the District Committee. That’s where these decisions are made and where the work gets done.
If you want a more progressive party you’ve got to work for it. Standing on the outside screaming in doesn’t work. You’ve got to get down in the mud, the blood, and the beer. You may lose a little of your purity in the process, but it won’t hurt you to learn how these things really work, and to do the actual work of electing somebody.
Thus endeth today’s sermon. Sorry to preach folks.
