Mr. Thompson, how do you feel about race in this country?
Mr. Thompson? uh ok, not there? How about you MR. ROMNEY? Mr. Romney?
Ok, how about you Rudy? Rudy? Rudy are you there?
Well then I must go to you Mr. Huckabee? Will you please answer the question?
Sigh, will any of you please answer a question on race?
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you America’s Party!
Just what about race? Is it support for an ‘affirmative action’ system that is little more than quotas?
Is it support for ‘entitlements’ that are often little more than velvet-lined shackles?
Does it mean maintaining a system of public education system that assures a declining level of mediocrity?
And what is done about a mindset in which drug dealers and pimps are urban role models? Does anyone remember a N-J headline of two years ago that proclaimed: “Ghetto Icon Slain”? The dead thug was a bully who sired a string of bastards and his timely passing was a boon to society. Is the new ‘First Commandment’ “Thou Shalt Not Snitch”?
so that is the reason they aren’t going to the debate by tavis smiley?
wow art, how do you really feal about black people?
Ya gotta admit though, that is creative — the repub candidates don’t show up at a debate hosted by a HBCU because the NJ had a headline of Ghetto Icon Slain. Awesome!
Kinda like the Dems not coming to the Congressional Black Caucus debate because it was on Fox.
The Dems did not show up for the Fox debate because Fox is a make-pretend news organization. For your analogy to work, you want us to understand that Morgan University is a make-pretend school.
wow dave, how do you feel about black colleges?
comparing one to fox news?
The only operational chance, albeit a very small one, for the GOP to hold the WH is to amp-up the “Southern Strategy”.
It’s always there when needed. Unfortunately for them, that major part of their base has been steadily declining over the decades….
Though, I’ll have to say, the SS still works on the state and local level. Remember Harold Ford and TN last year?
Dave, Call me…. 😉
A pure and blatant picking of the miscegenation scab…. ;-(
Cassandra,
For your information, the Dems were fools to not show-up to that debate. Absolute fools. The highest-rated cable news network, and they act like scared little bitches. If they were smart they would’ve used the debate to their advantage and shaken it up a bit. Hell, bad-mouth FOX. But don’t give up the debate that could’ve reached as much as four or five times the audience the other cable news networks attract.
I now think Mike has a point.
I was aginast the fox debate on the grounds that the moderator would ask “when did you stop beating your wife?” type questions and use every right-wing frame.
Turns out, that is going to happen no matter what network they are on.
Make Shuster of NBC the official moderator of all Presidential political debates from now on. I get the feeling that Shuster would not pull punches regardless of party affiliation. And after his performance with the chickenhawk Senator from Tennessee, you can bet that political o-rings would tighten everytime he addressed a candidate.
No Mike, Dems should not show up at a so-called news organization to have that organization pull out all of the stops (not just moderator framing, but graphics, misleading text crawls, and hand-picked wingnut commentators appearing just after the event saying whatever they please to make Dems look as scary as possible.
And if you are African American? Their treatment of you is worse. And there’s more.
The real stupidity is to treat Fox news as if it were a real news organization rather than the PR arm of the RNC.
Moonbat alert! Moonbat alert! Cassandra has spoken!!
No, Cassandra…the real stupidity is to treat FOX News as if it doesn’t have the largest news audience in America. Democrats are big boys and girls. I’m sure Hilary, Barack, and Ramblin’ Joe Biden know how to take them on. They’re the sissified morons for saying no.
Cassandra, in my opinion Mike is not a D or an R, he’s a comedian (I mean that in the good way). He doesn’t care about advancing the D’s interests – he just wants to use them for comic material. A Dem debate on Fox would be like Christmas morning to him.
Anon,
You’re wrong in just about every way. I am not a comedian and I don’t want to use the Dems for comic material (though they do provide about as much as their GOP bretheren). I am serious in my criticism in that they’re morons for not sucking it up and turning the tables on FOX when given the opportunity. It makes no sense that they’ll do five debates on MSNBC, which has average ratings of about 500,000 or CNN, which averages under a million, but they won’t go on FOX, which routinely averages WELL OVER two-three million viewers on any given night.
They’re fucking pansies, if you ask me.

OK, I buy that.
I would like to see Dems gang up on the Fox moderator and all the wingnut talking points. But I don’t think they could pull it off. Maybe Edwards alone could do it. Bill Clinton certainly handed Chris Wallace his ass.

Lack of coverage is not the Dems biggest problem right now. They are not playing a ratings game.
I think the principle here is that at this stage, debates can’t help you, but they can hurt you. The more you debate, the more likely you will emit some sort of gaffe. Fox is more likely to ask the kind of questions that will produce a gaffe, or something that Fox will spin into a gaffe.
Also it is also good to blow off Fox just on general principles.
If this was a numbers game, then the argument ought to be that the candidates should never appear on cable since the broadcast stations routinely average way more viewers. And Fox’s numbers are only large in the cable news arena.
The only numbers that should have been of any concern to Dems on Fox is that their voters by and large don’t watch it. Certainly their base does not, and there is simply no downside to not appearing at a venue where the entire setup was going to be hostile to them. How many tables do you turn when they control the chyrons, the crawls, the idiotic moderators, and the talking points commentators?
At this point, sheer numbers are not nearly as important as numbers of folks you can credibly ask for votes from. And that is NOT a Fox news audience.
No I agree more with Cassandra. I’m so wishy washy.
wow art, how do you really feal about black people?
Just the folks who pander and politically enslave them.
In the matter of coverage, Fox got better ratings than the other stations.
Too many political candidates fear debates as much as they do open primaries. No sense in letting people in on the game. They’re just ‘not qualified’ (with apologies to Monty Python).
