I predicte a rush, in these comments, to excuplate Lofink Sr.

In that rush I hope we can all admit that Jr. would not have had that job without his connections.

  2. disbelief says:

What seems strange is Tom Wagner’s description of his own role as being only a ‘tip passer-on-er’, yet seems to know a lot of details.

And what about the NJ statement that no one has been arrested? Where did the NJ get that statement?

I also mentioned before that this type of fraud would leave a permanent paper trail, indicating that the risks involved would only be taken by a thief who really needed the money.

Why did the thief need the money so badly?

  3. anon says:

It’s horrible when these kids put a black mark on thier families name. Just this year Spences son(37 years old)was arrested for fighting and recently arressted again for trying to fill a bad prescription(police report NJ Nov. 6th). Hastings son(26 years old) was arrested on two felonies, One for felony assault, one for felony home invasion. And now Lofinks son(29 years old). What’s going on?

  4. The challenge of being a parent never stop.

  5. liberalgeek says:

I know Lowfink has been considering retirement from the House. I suspect this will hasten the decision.

  6. Delaware Dem says:

He barely won reelection last year. We have lined up a candidate to take him down this year.

I am actually saddened that this may hasten his retirement, for if he stayed and run, he would have been defeated in a massive landslide.

  7. disbelief says:

Gotta’ agree with Delaware Dem on that.

Its like the Carson/Malec race; why do we have to bother with all the time and effort of an election?

  8. disbelief says:

I sort of wondered why Burris wasn’t all over this, blaming the Democrat administration.

Odd about Dave. He can only get upset along party lines. The underlying facts (theft, state watchdog incompetence) don’t seem to be his consideration.

  9. Alan Coffey says:

“It’s horrible when these kids put a black mark on thier families name. …
    What’s going on?”

Authority has always attracted the lowest elements in the human race. All through history mankind has been bullied by scum. Those who lord it over their fellows and toss commands in every direction and would boss the grass in the meadow about which way to bend in the wind are the most depraved kind of prostitutes. They will submit to any indignity, perform any vile act, do anything to achieve power. The worst off-sloughings of the planet are the ingredients of sovereignty. Every government is a parliament of whores. The trouble is, in a democracy the whores are us.
    -P. J. O’Rourke

  10. Delaware Dem says:

Nah, dis….yesterday he agreed with me that the theft is not a partisan matter. Those crazy independents, Dana and Mike, are trying to make it one by claiming that this crime should not have been reported to the police by the Democratic Finance Dept.

  11. never said that at all. I simply attacked your partisan logic in one of your comments that because wagners a republican, he couldn’t be trusted to be impartial. you brought out that standard claptrap that because wagners of the party of bush that he can’t think with an open mind. that’s the bs I was calling you out on.

  12. Delaware Dem says:

I did not say Wagner could not be impartial, but I did say why take the chance? Further, you have yet to answer why it is inappropriate to refer a crime to the state police and why only Wagner could investigate further.

I am sorry that you do not view all Republicans with a suspicious eye, whether they be Delaware Republicans or Washington Republicans. But after 7 long years of Bush, and the long years of hypocritical attacks on Clinton and Gore, I do not trust any Republicans anywhere with any task. It is simply amazing to me that you do, but hey that’s your business.

  13. Chris says:

” I do not trust any Republicans anywhere with any task. ”

Funny. Coming from Jersey I learned the only thing you could trust in a Democrat is that they are corrupt.

By the way, GOP actually picked up State seats and defeated several incumbent Dems for local seats in NJ. So reports of GOP demise are greatly exaggerated.

  14. Delaware Dem says:

That’s Jersey. The one thing I have learned about Jersey is that they hate all their politicians. Indeed, in conservative Cape May County and Atlantic County, Democrats were elected for the first time ever. But I digress….

Jersey is Jersey. And I no more trust a New Jersey Republican because he or she won a race somewhere than I would trust a Delaware Republican.

  15. Al Mascitti says:

DelDem, it’s not inappropriate to bring in the state police. What’s wrong is to try to cut the auditor’s office — the proper venue for investigation — out of the loop. If you were aware of how the state police have covered up crimes involving politicians — you’ve heard about John Atkins, right? — you wouldn’t be so quick to claim this was being handed over to the proper authorities.

  16. Delaware Dem says:

Ok, a good point finally about why it is not a good idea to refer this to the State Police. I am less worried about the state police covering up something because there is also a concurrent federal investigation.

Further, Al, what more would Wagner do in this investigation? It seems to me that once he identified the culprits (LoFink and his entreprenaur friend on the outside), would he not refer this to the AG or the police for prosecution?

  17. anon says:

Coming from Jersey I learned the only thing you could trust in a Democrat is that they are corrupt.

New Jersey is laughing at our little million-dollar petty theft. They’ve got school board members who steal more than that.

  18. disbelief says:

What both Al and Del Dem are missing is that even though Wagner is ‘miffed’ about being cut-out of the investigation, he still can report numerous facts about it in the News Journal.

I think things are rotten on both sides of the aisle here. Wagner is too chatty about things he claims he doesn’t know and Cordrey is too silent.

  19. Delaware Dem says:

Actually, what I am wondering now if it is fair to say that Wagner was “cut” out of the investigation?

Wagner was conducting an investigation. He found clear and convincing evidence of fraud on the part of Lofink and the business friend of Lofink. He alerted the Finance Dept, who conducted their own investigation to verify Wagner’s findings. If Wagner, through his investigation, has identified such strong evidence fingering Lofink and his business friend on the outside as the culprits in this fraud, and indeed, the evidence found by Wagner is so significant and clear that, according to Wagner, no trial will be necessary and there would be quilty pleas all around, what more investigation by Wagner into Lofink is needed? Why would you delay the arrest and prosecution of Lofink so that Wagner can continue what appears to be, according to him, a completed investigation?

And what is stopping Wagner from auditing the entire Finance Department separate from the Lofink investigation to determine if there were other crimes committed, either by Lofink or someone else? Some are acting as if Wagner has been stripped of all power and that there is some evil Democratic cover-up in the referral of this to the police.

  20. I agree, DelDem. NO way was there a Democratic cover up with this scandal. Just every other Minner-ian scandal that came before it.

  21. Delaware Dem says:

You know, Mike, your continued sarcastic comments prove that you are the one making this a partisan issue. And tell me, what is the motivation for the Democrats to cover this up? Last I checked, the suspect, and thus the beneificiary of any coverup, is the son of a Republican.

  22. I already admitted there was no democratic cover up, so why even ask?

  23. Delaware Dem says:

I guess you turn that sarcastic switch on and off depending on which blog you are on.

  24. Simple context and comprehension clues tend to work wonders…

  25. Delaware Dem says:

    You left clues? Where? LOL.

  26. anon. says:

Al Mascitti, Atkins debacle was handled by the MD. police, not the DSP, you dumbass! By the way, where is Dave on this issue?

  27. liberalgeek says:

Actually, the offensive touching part of the story was Delaware.

  28. Al Mascitti says:

anon., you dumbass, the DSP were involved in picking up Atkins after he was driven to Delaware and then let him drive home. How soon we forget — especially when we’re apologizing for assholes.

The motivation to cover this up would be twofold: 1) you’re assuming Cordrey knew from the first that a Republican’s son was involved. No evidence of that. It could just have easily been a Democrat, which brings up the fact that 2) regardless of the political party of the perpetrator, Democrats are in charge and therefore could be held accountable.

  29. Dave says:

    Actually, Al, anon is right.

Atkins was let go by the MD police for driving drunk the first time that night. He got a ride back to DE from a friend before he drove drunk for the second time that night.

  30. Delaware Dem says:

    Yes, Dave is right.

    (Temperatures in Hell just plummeted).

So Al, who is the dumbass?

  31. anon. says:

    Thanks Dave.

  32. Dave says:

    You’re welcome, John.

  33. Dave says:

    That was a joke, people.

  34. anon. says:

Dave, good one!! That was hilarious!

  35. Al Mascitti says:

Aren’t we forgetting the identity of the “friend” here? Wasn’t he DSP?

  36. Intheno says:

No, he was not a cop. Al, you should check your facts before you speak them as gospel.

  37. Al Mascitti says:

I know my facts. I just don’t remember which ones were made public.

  38. anon. says:

Al, catch up with the story. If you remember there was a internal investigation by the DSP into this claim as reported by the NJ. Four or five people have now tried to convince you that you are wrong. Kiss Gerry, and roll over and go back to sleep.

  39. Brian says:

Too much time worrying about personal lives and too little time worrying about the issues. The issues are what matter, personal lives are hardly relevent. It was said of Washington, that he never had any children so we could all be his children and none of us are perfect.

  40. Al Mascitti says:

“An internal investigation by the DSP.” You people slay me. Remember, this is the organization whose top man tried to bury an investigation into DNREC shenanigans a couple of years back by talking to a Dover city official “as a citizen, not a STate Police official.” As I say, you people slay me. Especially those who sign their name “anon.” because they’re such clear partisan shills. Dickwipe.

  41. Brian says:

Al your use of words is much more direct then mine, but corruption needs to be adddressed systematically through rigorous audits and an independent system. Make it happen with the mighty pen.
