  1. Dana Garrett says:

Sorry, Jason, but it’s a false alarm. I have received the definitive word. I’m told someone affixed Frank Sims name to the e-mail w/o authorization.

IPOD merely intends to change its method of selecting Fusion candidacies, not abolish them.

Besides, IPOD is far from the only 3rd party in DE. The Working Families Party will probably endorse fusion candidates in 2008.

You and your political alter ego Daniello will haver to put the cork back in the bottle.

  2. LIZ ALLEN says:

Sorry, it appears someone is playing a prank. IPOD members I spoke with today, are 100% on board with fusion.

It is our goal to have an IPOD candidate in every race in the State, if that is not possible- we reserve the right to look at other candidates in other parties. We can also endorse that candidate if their platform is similiar to ours: (deinformedvoters.org), or we believe they can be educated using facts not opinion, not beholden to party demands/machines.

Dana is right. There are other parties in the State who understand the beauty of “fusion” from the citizens point of view. It’s a beautiful thing!

  3. Dave says:

Frank Sims stands by the premise of the statement.

According to Sims, IPOD will no longer cross-endorse.

  4. Tyler Nixon says:

Frank Sims also stands by the explicit language of the statement he wrote, which makes Tom Little a political e-forger.

  5. Tom Little is a deluded crank. This we know. However, it doesn’t change the fact that Sims has put thrown in his cards on fusion. There’s no other way to spin this.

  6. Tyler Nixon says:

As I understand it, Sims acted unilaterally in secret, without consulting with or getting the approval of his party’s leadership or Exec Comm.

Obviously he is under the sway of Tom Little who clearly has a vendetta against the GOP. Little tried very hard to kaibosh the Joanne Christian fusion candidacy. This is his twisted way of striking back and it will not ultimately succeed.

Apparently Franks Sims also put Little on the Ind Party ballot for Lt Gov without getting the attested signature(s) of any other Exec Officer of the Ind Party. I don’t see how they pulled this off, since the nomination certificate requires a County Chair and Secretary to sign.

Tom Little is simply a dangerous bully with little regard (‘scuse the pun) for democracy or consensus opinion, even in ‘his’ own party.

  7. disbelief says:

Anybody think that the Independent’s backsides are a bit sore from the ‘brilliant’ move of endorsing Christian? Fusion is supposed to attract more votes, not lose them.

  8. donviti says:

    what’s fusion?

maybe we should have a post explaining it…

  9. RickJ says:

I think too much emphasis is being placed on the reach of Frank Sims in this case.

The popular stat is the percentage breakdown of registered voters: 43 pct. Democrat, 34 pct. Republican, 23 pct. Independent (as of 2004). Does that mean Frank Sims speaks for 23 percent of Delawareans? Hardly.

The vast majority of people registered independent do so because they don’t have faith in a hierarchy of party bigwigs speaking for them on every issue. The vast majority of people registered independent vote for candidates from the “Big Two” whose views are aligned with theirs. By flatly stating that the “Independent Party of Delaware” – which most people registered “independent” don’t actually belong to – rejects all candidates from other parties doesn’t hurt anyone but Frank Sims, who just rejected the frequent mandates of indepedent voters.

The stats also don’t take into account any other party affiliations – “Independent” should actually read “Other”. I know that the Libertarian, Working Families, Socialist, Green, Reform, Natural Law, and Constitution Parties would feel a bit slighted by any pronunciation of a death knell at this juncture.

Frank Sims has perceived power because his chosen political party uses a word that many associate their views with. That doesn’t make him their spokesman, anymore than if I was head of the “Steak Tastes Delicious Party”, or the “Women Can’t Parallel Park Party”. Am I right, fellas?

  10. The Working Family Party of Delaware is still going to field fusion candidates. No doubt of that.

  11. Rebecca says:

Undeclared is a better term than Independent or Other. Other is the umbrella term for all the minor parties, other than the Democrats and Republicans. This includes the Independent Party of Delaware. People who register as Independents are not declaring a party affiliation, as opposed to people who register as members of the Independent Party of Delaware which is a party. It’s very confusing and probably deliberately so.

  12. ANNON II says:

My, my how big Frank Sims’ head has become….sad.

I truly hope the INPD doesn’t implod as the Greens have. INPD officers better get together and figure this shit out before it becomes ‘unmanagable’.
