Don’t Europeans know they should have faith in the benevolence of corporations?

Befor you read this “sadly no!” post which I’ll just cut and paste – read an Al Mascitti rebuke of David Andersen in the comments of this FSP post. Oh what the hell…I’ll cut to the chase.

Andersen says (among other things) our standard of living is rising, John Edwards is bad and corporations are good.

Mascitti says (among other things):

Your understanding of how corporations operate would be charmingly naive if it weren’t so dangerous.

So true… now then…

That European Socialism Is So Horrible

Posted at 3:15 by Jillian
It’s such a shame that EU countries can’t enjoy the same standard of living that we do here in….what’s that?

UK standard of living rises above that in America for the first time in a century

For the first time in more than 100 years, British living standards have risen above those of Americans, a report has declared.

Increasing incomes, longer holidays and “free” healthcare have all contributed to making Britons better off than our friends across the Atlantic, according to the respected Oxford Economics consultancy.

Oh.

Keep telling us how great this economy is doing under Republican administration, guys. And tell us again about how that evil socialized medicine is going to ruin our country.

I’m looking for the joke here, but I’m just not finding teh funny this time. Maybe some of you guys can find it for me.

What I’ve Learned About the Early Primaries

I have to thank Dave Burris.  I didn’t get it until I listened to what he was saying.  He has been battered by polls for the past 6 months that showed that Mitt was doing poorly nationally.  Dave pointed out that nationally didn’t matter so much at the beginning.  Mitt was spending to win Iowa and New Hampshire.  Then that momentum would carry the day in the other primaries.

That is why I am so excited that Obama did so well in Iowa.  Now he leads in the latest polls in New Hampshire.  Like a running back, I can now see the hole in the line opening up in front of Obama.  A win here and he is the candidate to beat for the rest of the month.

Things don’t look so hot for Mitt, though.  In 6 of 7 NH polls, Mitt is losing to McCain (by as much as 14 points in one).  We’ll know how scared Mitt is when he starts letting loose on McCain.  So far all of the McCain talk has been “Great American” talk.  Look for the back channel, “Older than Dirt” comments to start flying.  If something doesn’t change, Mitt will start looking for a VP spot by March.

Markell Calls Out Leg Hall Fossils on Wind Power: Carney MIA

I liked Jack’s letter which simply asks WTF? (paraphrase) The actual letter reads in part:

“We have come so far in this process, and so much evidence has mounted that Delaware can become home to the nation’s first off shore wind farm, that any agency head not prepared to accept the Power Purchase Agreement must answer this question: What new evidence has come forth that leads us to believe the Power Purchase Agreement is not the best possible outcome of the process anticipated and directed by legislators in passing HB 6 in the first place?”

“So far no such evidence has been brought forth, and if there is still information that casts doubt on this fact, the public deserves to see every one of those details immediately.”

“After a competitive process ordered by HB 6 and after considerable analysis and public scrutiny, the offshore wind proposal was judged to be the state’s best option. The process by which this was determined was public and fair,”

“Not moving forward with the proposed bid sets in place a precedent that can only lead to madness.”

That is a straight up bitch slap.

Um WOW!

George McGovern Has written an Opinion Piece calling for the Impeachment of W.

As former representative Elizabeth Holtzman, who played a key role in the Nixon impeachment proceedings, wrote two years ago, “it wasn’t until the most recent revelations that President Bush directed the wiretapping of hundreds, possibly thousands, of Americans, in violation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) — and argued that, as Commander in Chief, he had the right in the interests of national security to override our country’s laws — that I felt the same sinking feeling in my stomach as I did during Watergate. . . . A President, any President, who maintains that he is above the law — and repeatedly violates the law — thereby commits high crimes and misdemeanors.”

I believe we have a chance to heal the wounds the nation has suffered in the opening decade of the 21st century. This recovery may take a generation and will depend on the election of a series of rational presidents and Congresses. At age 85, I won’t be around to witness the completion of the difficult rebuilding of our sorely damaged country, but I’d like to hold on long enough to see the healing begin.

There has never been a day in my adult life when I would not have sacrificed that life to save the United States from genuine danger, such as the ones we faced when I served as a bomber pilot in World War II. We must be a great nation because from time to time, we make gigantic blunders, but so far, we have survived and recovered.

Oh man George Howthefuckdoyouspellmynameopolous on ABC just RIPPED apart huckabee on his support for the surge!

Oh Man now he is ripping Flip Flop Romney…AWESOME!

A “Bad News / Good News” Situation

First the bad news: Worldwide economic train wreck.

Now the good news: No more Republican money grubbing trying to pass as economic theory. Also, far less DLC corporate asskissing* from toadies like Tom Carper.

Too bad we’ll have to endure the first to get the second – but I’ll take it.

*Asskissing grossly understates the DLC’s malevolent role in this economic debacle, but I’m trying to keep the blog more kid friendly.

Government Logic

Our commerical aircraft were attacked by guys with box cutters, so we decide to put anti-missle shit on them to ….uhhmm protect them….from box cutter brandishing terrorists.

It’s the same kind of awesome logic that we used when we invaded Iraq as a result of being attacked by people from Saudi Arabia.

Breaking: Alan Levin Now “80 percent likely” to Run Against Mike Protack

It is not me saying it. It is Louis Jacobson, Stateline.org Columnist.

As Delaware Democrats try to retain the seat held by term-limited Gov. Ruth Ann Minner, the primary battle between Lt. Gov. John Carney (D) and state Treasurer Jack Markell (D) is heating up. Polls are scarce, but Carney is thought to be ahead, albeit by a decreasing margin. Republicans hope for two things: a rough Democratic primary that leaves the loser’s supporters dejected, and the entry into the race by Alan Levin (R), a moderate former U.S. Senate aide who last year sold his family’s Happy Harry’s drug store chain to Walgreens. Analysts think Levin is 80 percent likely to run. Either Democrat would be favored, especially in a presidential year, but Levin would be a credible challenger.

Yes. I know that it also means that there is a 20% chance that he will not challenge Protack. But maybe there is something to these rumors about Levin challenging Protack after all.
