Plan to Rebuild the DE GOP
Part 1: De-Bushification
In order to begin to rebuild, the DE GOP must utterly, totally and publicly reject George Bush. This should begin with Mike Castle making a public apology for the fact that he supported George Bush’s campaign here in Delaware and as well as apologizing for voting with Bush’s Iraq war policies 95% of the time.
Every Republican office holder should sign some kind of statement accepting culpability for the fiasco that is George Bush. The statement should say something like, “through our inaction we allowed this country to come to incredible harm. ”
The higher ups might need step down in order to give this statement of contrition some authenticity.
The only Republican that I know of that would not have to sign would be Tyler Nixon and RSmitty who have both been public in their disgust over Bush’s anti-American policies.
Registered Republicans should also be encouraged to make some act of contrition. Baking a tray of brownies for their Democratic neighbors would be a start.
A couple things…
-1) I got props! WORD! You da’ man!
-2) “Baking a tray of brownies for their Democratic neighbors would be a start.” Hmm…a not-so-subtle hint based on the fact I live just down Rt 9 from you? Maybe I can put candy hearts on them and bring them to you to give to your wife on valentines day. You know, when you tell her you have been blogging all this time over the past year.
This from the party that twice elected Ruth Ann Minner?
If the Repubs owe you brownies, you at least should provide the whipped cream….
LOL
“Baking a tray of brownies for their Democratic neighbors would be a start.”
I think someone already gave you guys brownies, isn’t that how your party started 🙂

Don’t get in a snit Steve. Just some friendly advice. take it to heart or spend a generation in the wilderness.
It is your choice.
Hey, Jason
Just remember–I’m not a Republican, either.
I find both sides equally funny.
My bad.
Here’s a start. I am no longer a member of the Bush wing of the republican party! Because Bush and his corporate cronies have stolen billions of dollars from hard working american citizens, we will do what the Senate did to Prescott Bush (Georgie’s granddaddy) and seize all their assets! Halliburton, KBR, Brown&Root, et al.
We promise to rid our state and Washington DC of the 35,000 lobbyists (DC alone) and return to the people lobbying for themselves!
If the republicans did those two things they might get moderate dems and independents to join up…I won’t hold my breath.
I’m tempted to make a comment, but, that would constitute free political consulting on how to save the GOP from itself and that’s certainly not my job…
Castle needs to get out of politics. 4 government pensions is enough of the public’s money. How much is enugh Mike? Your old an febble so please let some one younger do the job.
The Dems should bake the brownies their way… with little flecks of green stuff….if the Reps ate enough of ’em they may loosen up and see the light (show) 🙂
I see this only as a scheme for Jason to score some free brownies.
This “plan” would be an incredible waste of time. It wouldn’t fix anything, and nothing would change.
I think you are underestimating the damage that your party’s continued affiliation with President Bush is inflicting.
It is a start.
In future installments I’ll help you with your messaging and taking the next steps to rehab your damaged brand.
The GOP is ill served by its top leadership. There is a ‘cult of personality’ arrangement where the goal of Terry Strine seems to be maintaining Mike Castle as Representative for life. Is it just possible that they share some business interests?
Yet Castle will have the prospect of facing a General Election opponent who makes him look good by comparison. ‘Hold your nose’ and vote for the lesser of the two evils is no way to build a party.
There are rotten things in the First State. A well-connected Democrat may yet get away with murder. New Castle County is graft ridden.
Where are the jobs? Can the shylocks in the credit card and payday loan industries really assure broad prosperity?
Recent Democrat victories in special elections did not involve candidates from the left wing of the party but those who could have been elected as Republicans.
Democrats are doing a better job at creating farm team candidates.
What the Delaware GOP needs is an infusion of issues and a willingness to play hardball.
The Protack alternative is really a symptom that something is wrong. He is not the answer.
Neither is the maintenance of a declining status quo.
Sounds like I have my first customer for my lecture series.
We’ll get started as soon as a few more people wander into the lecture hall.
