BREAKING: Possible GOP GOV Nominee claims Copeland not a party to Scuttleing the Blue Water Deal

Filed in National by on January 23, 2008

This is seriously big news. Dave Burris who knows a fair share about the inner working of Leg Hall now claims says that maybe Charlie Copeland was not a party to the back room deal that was cut between Delamarva Power and the Sr. members of the Democratic and Republican Caucuses in Leg Hall.

If this is true it would mean that the deal which resulted in the instructions to Russ Larsen to derail the PSC process by bringing the final deliberations under the purview of the State Legislature was entirely the work of Democratic legislators who are in the virtual employ of Delmarva wind. If this assertion holds up it will be a huge swing in the fortunes of wind power in that it would put the blame for the deal being slapped down squarely on the Democrats making it a potentially explosive election year issue.

I have an email out to Copeland asking for clarification and will update when I get some word back.

And that’s where you go with “that is my understanding” and “I could be wrong” and “I haven’t talked to him about it.”

    Nice. Quite responsible of you.

  2. jason330 says:

You tacked that on. You clearly put the claim out there, now you want to back off it.

    I wonder why.

  3. FSP says:

Why? Because I didn’t hear it directly from the horse’s mouth. That’s why.

  4. jason330 says:

You never talked to him about it? C’mon.

  5. FSP says:

No. I’ve never talked to him about it. My opinion is just a collection of things I’ve heard.

The main basis for my statement, if you go back and look, is that Copeland doesn’t have the AUTHORITY to influence that kind of decision because he is in the minority in a chamber where the minority has NO rights.

  6. jason330 says:

So Copeland is either in on the deal and is a crook OR knuckled under to Adams and is a pussy.

    Do I have that right?

  7. TommyWonk says:

I am told that the meetings to instruct the controller general to not vote for the wind power deal included all of leadership. Was Copeland not in the meetings? If he was there, did he choose not to voice his opinion?

There is no question that Copeland has consistently opposed the Bluewater Wind as interfering with the unfettered blessings of the free market. (Short term purchases of energy are fine; a long term agreement to lock in prices somehow interferes with the functioning of the market.)

Here’s what he had to say last fall:

“We ought to let private investors compete against one another to get us the best price point and price stability. I think the marketplace would do that better than some regulatory regime,” Copeland said.

  8. anon says:

The irony is rich. Copeland has some explaining to do because he pretends not to be corrupt, but McDowell and Adams get a pass because everyone knows they are in Delmarva’s pocket.

  9. Whoever YOU want it to be says:

    Whatever.
Don’t forget that Joe Farley, former state chair of the Dems, is Delmarva’s head lackey.

I, for one, will never give McDowell a pass for what he did to the people of DE…..the question is why do the members of the ‘party of the people’ protect him???? Nancy Cook, and others, dragged their butt(s) to NCCo. to campaign for him.

You should see the new cement work around Father Tucker Field (St. Anthony’s) that Harris funded. I hate it when religioun & politics mix.

Oh, yes, and don’t forget ACORN….under Harris’ influence they championed against ‘dereg.’ and then promptly sold out the citizenry too….we now know they have a price.

  10. TommyWonk says:

FYI, ACORN has come out in support of the offshore wind plan.

  11. Maria Evans says:

“I’d like to see the wind farm go forward.” -Charlie Copeland, yesterday. But he has “concerns…”

ACORN was against de-reg at Harris’ prodding? WTF????

  13. R Smitty says:

I saw that, too, Nancy. Either it’s a typo or he/she meant that ACORN put up a front to make an appearance of caring. I say this not having a clue what ACORN’s position was. Only trying to figure out that statement, too.
