Parking Logistic for Tomorrow’s Obama Rally
I’m coming up Rt 13 and plan on getting to Wilmington with the family around 10:00 and looking for parking in any of the pay lots on French, Orange or King Streets which should get us to within 3 to 5 blocks of Rodney Square.
If that fails, “plan B” is to drop the passengers off and head back down toward the train station.
So is this plan utter fantasy? Any Wilmingtonians with insider tips out there?

J – if your parking garage strategy fails, feel free to park on my block. It is a shorter walk than from the train station and always has spots available on Sundays (in front of the school). There is no restriction on weekend parking either. Call me.
Jason – just be careful of the broken sidewalks in front of Tyler’s house… 🙂
Cool. Thanks you crazy-urban-conservative-eco-warrior-Gingrich-ite.
LOL!
Are the Family Geek going to take part?
There is the City Center Garage at 11th and Tatnall (where you can park for Theater N events) which would get you close to Rodney Square and with decent access to I95, and if you can get back to 13 fairly easily around the secured area.
S’OK. If you bust your ass on the sidewalks I’ll gladly take your case against the city. They may think the supreme court has no authority over them, but I suspect the Superior Court will disagree.
And hey I’m no Gingrich-ite! That was in a past life, before someone slipped Newt some Bushie kool aid, post 9/11. Crazy, yes. Gingrich-ite no.
Drive your old car and head east from Market until you find a free spot.
…and hope it will be there when you get back.
Go west, young man!
Jack & Gemma report that the garage by their shop on Shipley between 8th and 9th should be open at 10:00, Secret Service permitting. Also, the flat lot on Orange between 8th and 9th is always open on Sundays and free. Again, that’s if the Secret Service hasn’t closed off the streets. Both of those are a short 3-4 block walk over to Rodney Square.
I would like to take this opportunity to point out that if Delaware had Sunday bus service, this would not be a problem.
Good point Al.
Meanwhile, I’ve been told that the streets will be closed between French and Market and 9th and 12th Streets. So, 8th & 9th Streets will be open to access the garage on Shipley or the lot on Orange.
Remember, they are asking you not to carry handbags or back packs. Probably not water bottles but that’s up to you.
Clan Geek will be in attendance. I have actually applied for press credentials, so I’m gonna actually be there with the video camera to interview people in the crowd. Hopefully the results will be posted to youtube on Sunday night.
Cool geek.
I was going to leave my citizen journalist hat at home but (to paraphrase Dave Burris) I am never NOT a blogger.
BREAKING: McCain 41, Romney 35; Clinton 44, Obama 42 in ARG Delaware poll, 600LV, +/- 4%. See FSP for link (’cause I don’t feel like typing it in).
