Comment Rescue: Windpower, Education, and John Carney
I thought I would try and bring this thread back to liberalgeeks’ orignal point with another example of John Carney’s hard work to try and get this sucker done.
Wind power firm offers partnership with Del Tech.
liberalgeek – if I didn’t know better, I’d say Carney reads your posts.
I was thinking the same thing as I drove home last night listening to WDEL. It is getting to the point that McDowell, Copeland and Adams cannot hide. Let’s hope that we can flush them out on this issue or else at the next election cycle.
Oh, and Hi John, thanks for the interview on Super Tuesday.

So far, by holding out for various reasons, we’ve gotten:
a) a better rate;
b) the promise of jobs
c) the partnership with DelTech.
Can someone tell me why we shouldn’t continue to hold out?
At some point, tho, Dave, when will be the point-of-no-return at the bargaining table?
(*I can’t believe I’m bringing this up with you here…it’s your fault*)
I think we all know Delmarva has about nothing to lose in the anywhere-near term playing this waiting game AND we have seen that BWW can make concessions. The one announced yesterday about the training of Delaware residents shows great potential and return for our residents. However, noting that this is not a financial concession in terms of what customers would see on a bill, I am becoming concerned that BWW may not have a whole let left to give away to placate the regime.
What seriously can be left to gain by waiting longer at this point? Yes, BWW wants this, but if they get favorable responses from MD and NY (I think those are the other current potential sites, but not certain), will they figure we are no longer worth the hassle and sunk $$$ for even trying, but being bitch slapped in the process?
I seriously can’t fathom any further gains at this point in waiting. The time is now. I know you like the prospect (in spite of what most will think about your response above) and almost every reader of our blogs like the prospect (save a few coal and nuclear proponents and I mean the fanatics).
Question to you: what do you see as a further gain in waiting at this point? What do you think is left in that well that can be scooped up?
That’s funny Dave. You act like “holding out” was some kind of plan that the brainiac McDowell came up with.
When in fact these developments simply show that one party is acting in good faith and one is not.

Party…meaning BWW party and Delmarva party, right?
Hey, where are those books?
power of the blogs baby….
Now for the story behind the story: DE labor has been working on this training program for months w/ Carney.
Even though the AFL-CIO and several DE unions have officially endorsed the BWW plan, some persons in the media (like Mascitti) continually say that DE Labor opposes the BWW plan.
I knew about the plan & efforts of various DE labor unions to set up this training program for a long time. I wanted to write about it, but some people gave me very convincing reasons, ones which I cannot disclose, that powerful interests would try to nip it in the bud if it got publicity.
Yes, you can thank Carney for this. But you can also thank DE labor for this development.
I suspect there will be more developments on this story later as well.
“That’s funny Dave. You act like “holding out” was some kind of plan that the brainiac McDowell came up with.”
I think it’s just a way of justifying Copeland’s betrayal of the public interest.
“I think it’s just a way of justifying Copeland’s betrayal of the public interest.”
No, actually. It was a joke. No one is holding out for a better deal. But we do keep getting a better deal, and that has to be taken into account.
Oh, and its nice to see labor giving back and trying to justify all the handouts.

When I wrote above —
“I wanted to write about it, but some people gave me very convincing reasons, ones which I cannot disclose, that powerful interests would try to nip it in the bud if it got publicity”–
now you know one of the reasons why it was important to keep labors efforts to arrange for the training secret.
One of the powerful interests that world have probably tried to kill the training deal would have been the anti-union Republicans. Some of them hate unions so much, they would have been willing to scuttle wind power for Delaware if it meant that the unions got any strokes for playing a role in making it happen.
Dana, I’m glad to see labor is now on board with the BWW plan. But don’t try to pretend that their first choice wasn’t another coal burner at Indian River. It’s just that union leaders, unlike a few of our elected officials, know how to jump in at the head of a parade.
