   Reminds me of Koyaanisqatsi, same musical style, same accelerated world footage.

   Guess what Koyaanisqatsi means? Life out of balance. Seems apropos.

   In many ways that clip (with its reference to Churchill and Teddy) is dog whistle politics to the neocons of the species. McCain is a neocon in good standing of course, with the same dreams of empire derived from 19th century Great Britain. The difference being,of course, that Churchill understood about working with other countries, understood about asking for broad sacrifice in the service of a national emergency, was smarter than any of these neocon idiots, and certainly was not in the business of war as a way to drain the treasury and to prop up his party.

   I don’t know what relatives of Churchill are alive, but I sure wish they’d get busy reclaiming this (flawed but still) great man’s legacy from these repub pikers.

   You hit on something that I’ve never understood about Republicans in general and neocons in particular.

   Even now they act as though there is no downstream cost to war, provided you win.

   That’s why McCain is still talking about how we are going to “win” in Iraq. It is like winning is some Deus Ex Machina that will set everything right.

   It is such simplistic thinking that I think it is hard to defend against because there is a lingering feeling on the left that, “they can’t be serious” and that it is some kind of pose.
