Online Caucus Update II
Bullock: 2
Hartley-Nagle: 1
It is STILL anybody’s game.
Okay. I said it could be awesome or it could suck and two things seem to be problematic.
1) It is too early.
2) Nobody wants to give money to the eventual nominee.
I’ll be retooling this caucus idea and I am quite sure that version 2.0 will be teh awesome.
What about Mike Miller? Hating on the man already.
You rock!
With this much cash flowing through the site, you better stay away from call girls.
We’lll give it the full 72 hours, but I am starting to think that this set up might be flawed.
It is flawed because candidates prefer the money they raise go directly to their campaign funds.
I wonder if this is just too early. Maybe the folks who are the best partisans for these candidates are not here (just off working for their candidate) and the rest of us just want to know more.
Do you think asking each of these folks to come here for some live-blogging Q&A might work? Set a date and time, tell the candidate that they are free to ask their supporters to join us for the event and see what happens.
Why don’t the progressives actually hold a debate between all the candidates. Jerry Northington and Mike Miller included. How many of you have actually been on the campaign trail and listened to them discuss issues? I frankly resent Rebecca just writing off Jerry Northington, how progressive is that?
A debate hosted by bloggers would be very cool indeed.
It would still have to be audio. A typewriter debate sounds like a Liz Allen idea; like electing based on astrological sign or whether your moon is in Aquarius.
It is flawed because candidates prefer the money they raise go directly to their campaign funds.

Liz, that is a load.
The ActBlue effort is a fantastic tool for liberals to show an organized, united financial committment to our ideals. You don’t know what you are talking about.
There is so much benefit to this national scorecard I can’t even get started on it and how much of a success it has been for the Democratic party and to the individuals to whom receive it’s bounty.
Often, the national blogs will target a DEM who has a fighting chance to take a GOPer incumbent and raise their profile by asking liberals across the nation to help out. ActBlue’s efforts were able to put 100K into Darcy Burner’s coffers on the eve of Bush visiting her opponent, mostly from people outside her state.
We are united to bring this country back from the black age of GOP and it takes ORGANIZATION. Don’t dismiss how vital ActBlue will be to the country’s future. Do a little of the research you are always touting yourself with doing and get with 21st century DEM activism.
A debate hosted by bloggers would be very cool indeed.

AMEN~!!
Nancy is right about Act Blue. And, everyone will be watching the 1st Quarter Filings to see which candidate is serious about this race. Money talks. Castle’s got two-point-something million in his war chest. That’s what it costs to run a statewide campaign.
So just pretend I’m Mrs. GotRocks. I’d like to help a Democrat defeat Mike Castle but all the D candidates have failed to raise any significant money. Will I throw my good money at a doomed campaign. No, I don’t think I will.
Early money gets more money. I don’t care who you give to, but money coming in before March 31, 2008 is important to these candidates.
Onward!
Oh, so lets get this straight. You think this blog should determine who the real candidate should be. How many people actually comment here? How about people who support one of the four candidates who never heard of this blog, are left out.
This is endorsement time, this is the primary where candidates run all over the state getting their issues out and voters make their decision.
Candidates use ActBlue for their fundraising, this blog isnt the only way.
Just remember that Karen Hartley Nagle received 40% of the primary vote on $400. Its not how much money you have, its how resourceful you are with the money you have.
Karen will have no trouble getting campaign money to go against Castle. She already has support statewide…
Act Blue is a wondeful campaign tool, and Karen Hartley Nagle and Jerry Nothington are already utilizing it, Nancy.
Dont know why my comment posted twice…but I would agree a “bloggers debate” would be great…who wants to organize that.
The question for this “online caucus” is whether all candidates were contacted prior and agreed to participate, then if all agreed, they would have the option of contacting their supporters, then this on line caucus would better reflect the true support of each of the candidates.
Liz,
You’ve made some decent comments, but I’m not contacting anyoneor asking anyone if they desire to participate.
I’ll fix the system and announce it when I announce it. That way we’ll see what kind of chops these operations have.
Part of running a campaign is being able to respond to a fluid and rapidly changing evironment.
Act Blue is a wondeful campaign tool, and Karen Hartley Nagle and Jerry Nothington are already utilizing it, Nancy.

As they should, Liz. Your dismissive take of ActBlue was a bit much.
Why do you say ‘they prefer the money to go straight to their campaigns? That is a ridiculous statement. ActBlue is a tool for all DEMs and it is important to use it.
If your complaint is REALLY with Del. Lib. playing Caucus then say so (which you have done above). I agree that it is definately weird to do this in a primary atmosphere. But, DELib is kinda weird (coughDVcough).
Nancy: How many who are posting here are with the Progressive Democrats! My complaint that some are dismissing candidates like Northington, and of course there is Mike Miller!
These candidates are running their ass off around this state…and you think they should be “watching every post on this site”. Of course they want their supporters to support their campaigns the whole purpose of Act Blue. But in all fairness, I stand with my comments above. How many supporters of all these candidates are blogging here or elsewhere…fair is fair!
Anyone who has actually run a campaign knows very well that this part of the primary is going to meet the voters, talking about issues, hearing from the public…the voters then make up their minds…about the end of July first of August voters will start paying closer attention and bone up with some bucks.
Whats wrong with letting the process take its course! And Nancy I wasn’t dismissing Act blue…I simply pointed out a fact…Karen and Northington are already signed up to it.

Nancy: how many posting here are with Progressive Democrats. There are all kinds of democrats, independents and greens and their votes are important. My complaint (if you want to call my post a complaint) is that some are just dismissing candidates like Northington, or Miller.
These candidates are running their ass off up and down this state, and you think they should be “watching every post on this site”. Of course they want their supporters to support their campaigns, the whole purpose of ActBlue. But in all fairness, I stand with my comments above.
How many of their supporters are blogging here or elsewhere, fair is fair.
Anyone who actually has run a campaign knows this stage of the campaign is about talking issues, hearing from the public, answering questions, getting to know all the candidates.
When the election gets closer to deadlines people will bone up with some bucks. Its too early at this stage of the campaign to expect big bucks going into any campaign.
Whats wrong with letting the process take its course. And Nancy, I wasn’t dismissing ActBlie, because we all know how great it is, I simply pointed out that Karen Hartley Nagle and Jerry Northington are already signed up.
I’ll comment on this tomorrow (after the misery ends) at 11:00am.
Until then it might help some folks to re-read the rules.

That’s a crock. Maybe it worked that way running for City Council, Liz — what place did you finish in that primary again? __ but anyone who’s actually run a WINNING campaign would have been raising funds for months by now — you know, the way Markell and Carney have. You expect to raise enough in August to run for U.S. Congress? Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!
